My Week on Instagram: Lakes, Pumpkin Pancakes and Fall Style

Last weekend Steve and I headed out to Lake Mojave with my parents for a mini vacation-- we've been going to the lake almost every year since I was 9 but hadn't been for about 4 years. It was great to take a few days to relax, swim (or rather, float) in the lake, and have some fun! And yeah, that's me up there skiing :P

The last few weeks have been super hot so a fall cool down is more than welcome! This past week I shared two transitional fall maxi outfits, including the one above with this gorgeous magenta scarf I picked up who knows where for super cheap. I love a great find! Oh, and the ring is from jewelry designer Meredith Kahn (Made Her Think)'s collection for mark. several years ago-- still one of my favorite pieces!

Our friend Panda was serving up her Pandini Paninis at a local Chino brewery. Stuck amid industrial buildings, the tiny small batch I and I Brewing serves lagers and IPAs-- Steve and I had the Session IPA, which was really good! I'm not much of a craft beer person and tend to stay away from IPA's but was digging this one.

I love when fall rolls around, not only because of the cooler weather, but because I feel like cooking and baking a lot more-- and I feel more creative with recipes. Sunday I made pumpkin pancakes using a SUPER simple recipe. If you love pumpkin pancakes but hate to cook or mix too many ingredients, then this recipe is for you. Be on the lookout Friday for the recipe!

Panda ended up giving me her leftover tray of Mac & Cheese from her paninis on Friday-- I ended up eating mac & cheese for breakfast and lunch on Saturday so by Sunday I needed to mix things up a bit. I rolled my cold mac into balls, dredged them in seasoned flour, egg, and bread crumbs respectively and then tossed (okay, gently placed) them in a pan of canola oil to fry them up. To dip, I mixed a few squirts of Sriracha into ketchup for a spicy Sriracha Ketchup... DELICIOUS!

Not the most exciting week, but sometimes an uneventful week & weekend is just what I need. Wishing you a wonderful first week of October!

How To: 3 Day DIY Juice Cleanse with Shopping List

Green juices for detox and cleanse

Every few months I begin to take note of all my recent fast food trips, soda-&-Hot-Cheetos afternoon snacks, and general unhealthy eating patterns. I started to get a feeling of unhealthiness recently and felt I needed to kick my healthy habits back into gear with a juice detox.

Several months ago I shared my 1-day juice cleanse but this time around I decided to step it up and try a DIY 3 day juice cleanse. Was it hard? Not really; sure there were a few snacks I had to forgo but I didn't have the negative experience many other juice cleansers have had-- I went in to the cleanse with a positive attitude and emerged with a sense of accomplishment and knowing that I did something good for my body. The only negative is that afterwards my chin broke out, however I read that juices cause that as they push out toxins... or maybe it's just from the sugary fruits. Personally, I wasn't looking to use the cleanse as a diet so I cannot speak to any weight loss.

Juice detox and cleanses can be very pricey so I chose to stick with the more frugal budget-friendly DIY version from my last cleanse, although I switched out one of the green juices for a carrot-apple-beet juice-- the last cleanse was just a little too green for me. Overall, I spent about $70 in produce and it took me about an hour and a half each night to make the juices.  I recommend using a juicer for all juices except the spicy lemonade and dessert smoothie. When you use a juicer, such as this juicer,  it extracts all the fiber from the fruits and veggies, however when you use a blender the fiber is not removed. I've read that some people prefer having the fiber so to each their own; I am not a nutritionist, this post is solely based on my juicing experience.

Here are the recipes and how to below, along with a shopping list:

Fall Transition: Maxi Madness

With my small frame, I always thought maxis wouldn't be right for me so I never wore them. Earlier this spring, I decided to give in and try them... and fell in love. Simply paired with a cute pair of sandals and I was good to go!

No need to shove your maxis to the back of the closet as the weather cools. Easily transition your maxis to fall with a cute fall jacket or a pretty printed scarf. Lose the sandals and pair with your favorite ankle boots, keep handbags and accessories in fall styles and colors. Check out more images of how I transitioned two of my favorite maxis to fall:

I love that this dress is not a full length maxi and includes slits up the side-- makes showing off the boots easy!

Four Favorites: Fall

Earlier this week I divulged a few things on my to-do list for fall and today I'm bringing you a few of my favorites of the season. As soon as fall hits, a deep dark red shade-- I am loving butter LONDON's La Moss (PS- butter LONDON sets are available on Zulily this week!)

A few weekends ago while shopping at Target, I came across a super cute heart sweater-- I kept seeing similar styles all over blogs last year and can't wait until it gets chilly enough to wear!

Anything apple puts me in the fall mood, whether it's pie, a caramel apple, or a delicious smelling candle. This year, I'm planning on making my own homemade apple butter-- it's so good on pancakes, crepes, almost anything (well, maybe not everything). Yum, yum!

And last but not least, mini pumpkins are a must-- they are cute, inexpensive, and make for easy decorations. Each year I load up on a few of different colors, love them!

What are some of your fall favorites?

Fall To-Do List

It's unbelievable how quick this year is going by but we are now officially in fall- which means cooler weather, cute fall styles & trends, and fall fun! As one of my favorite seasons, I have quite a few things on my fall must-do list:

1. A day trip to Oak Glen in Yucaipa is a must this year-- I really want to pick my own pumpkin, and pick up one of Apple Annie's hugemongous, super delicious apple pies and some fresh, apple cider. If you've never been and are in the SoCal area, I definitely recommend making a trip out here.

2. Start baking again! This summer has been way too hot in our apartment to bake, the few times I did turn on the oven I felt like I was baking. Last fall, I discovered this delicious cookie recipe and this year I especially can't wait to bake these and this deliciousness

3. Revamping our office has been on my to-do list for awhile now. Since we moved in, it's been an office/ extra storage room, mainly for Steve's computer, guitars, and recording equipment. I have my little desk in there as well that I pretty much only use as a vanity, but I'd still like to get the room looking decent. Not too exciting, but this weekend I plan on getting some of my prints hung and make a cork board for over my desk.

What are some of your fall must-do's?

September White

Thursdays make me happy. Thursdays mean that Friday is tomorrow, which then means the weekend! This week has felt long-- Steve has been out of town for work since Sunday and will finally be home tomorrow. I have also been on a juice cleanse since yesterday, unlike my 1-day cleanse, I'm going for the full 3-days. So far so good! More to come on the cleanse.

This week it has finally started cooling down-- last week we were in a heat wave, with temps reaching 100+.... ick! I'm trying to wear more fall transitional outfits to the office, but the heat can make it hard-- is it so wrong that I just want to stay in shorts and tees all day? I compromised and opted for a cool, white Free People lace dress/cover up worn over a basic slip dress (picked up from H&M for $5!) and my beloved combat boots. I got that broody Kristen Stewart look going on.

Four Favorites: Leather

The hottest trend for fall this year is no doubt leather-- I am seeing it everywhere! While I tend to stick to faux, because well let's face it, leather is expensive, I can't help but splurge on a new leather bag every now and then! My numero uno leather trend to try this season? A black leather skater skirt-- I'm especially loving this one with the zippers, giving the skirt a bit of a bad girl edge.

This week I'm spotlighting a few of my black leather favorites:

1. Line & Dot Faux-Leather Skater Skirt, Saks Fifth Avenue | 2. Cedar Street Luciana, Kate Spade | 3. Pour La Victorie Emmy Bootie, DSW | 4. Graham Neutral Leather Studded Wrap, Gorjana & Griffin

Enjoy the rest of your hump day!

Liebster Award

Christy from Sea Bella for nominated me for a Liebster Award-- thank you so much, Christy, I will happily accept!

The Liebster Award is given to up-and-coming bloggers with fewer than 200 followers. It is a fun way of discovering new blogs, and connecting with other bloggers. Liebster is German for sweetheart, beloved person, darling... which is similar to the meaning of 'Amanda. H'ow fitting is it that this is the word chosen for this award?  ;)

RULES
If nominated, you need to post a blog post with the following:
1. Accepting the award.
2. Answering the questions set by the blogger who nominated you (and comment on your nominator's page so they can read your answers).
3. Nominate 11 other bloggers (try to avoid repeats) for the award. And comment on their blog so they know they are nominated (and remember to link the rules).
4. Set 11 questions of your own for your nominees to answer.
5. Place the Liebster Badge on your post.

QUESTIONS
1. What is the hair product you cannot live without?

For the entire summer, I have been using Organix's Moroccan Sea Salt Spray-- I absolutely love this stuff! I spray into my damp hair, scrunch up a bit, and let it dry-- I get that perfect wavy beach hair (which is doubly fab because my hair is mainly straight!)

2. Are you a cat or dog person? Or neither?

When I was younger I would have said dog, but in the past few years I have definitely become a cat lady. My boyfriend's cat, Mittens, is sitting next to me as I'm writing this and I have two other cats living with my parents-- Meika and my big boy Sammy.

3. What is your day job?

I work in Culver City as the Director of PR and Digital Marketing at a creative/social media agency. I oversee and manage client social media accounts as well as outreach to bloggers on behalf of clients... basically I get paid to be on Facebook and browse blogs all day.

4. Who is your favorite actress?

Marilyn Monroe-- she's an icon and her life and career were so fascinating to me.  My favorite movies of hers are Gentleman Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire, but I have yet to see The Misfits!

5. If you could travel anywhere in the world, and money wasn't an issue, where would you go?

Japan and Thailand-- from what I've seen they look like gorgeous countries with amazing culture. I would also love to travel all over Europe-- UK, Sweden (my grandmother is Swedish), Spain, France, Italy, Greece, etc. I don't even have a passport or have ever been out of the country... well, except to Baja!

6. What song are you currently playing on repeat?

It might be a bit overplayed but Lana Del Rey's Summertime Sadness is my jam right now!

7. If you could have one super power what would it be?

Transporter... or maybe something like the Flash. I spend so much time in traffic here in LA going to and from work, I'd love to be able to skip over it all and get where I need to be at any time!

8. Beach or the mountains?

I love how beautiful and fresh the mountains are but the windy road up gives me a horrible headache and sometimes makes me nauseous, so I'll take the beach any day!

9. What is your favorite season and why?

Spring would have be my favorite season-- the weather warms up (yes, it get's a little chilly in SoCal!), everything feels fresh and new and spring fashions and colors are my favorite.

10. What is your biggest pet peeve?

Ugh, I have too many but I would say my biggest one is bad drivers-- people who aren't paying attention, who cut in line, or drive recklessly (or just way too slow). Can you tell I'm over traffic??

11. What magazines do you like to read?

Nylon, Allure, and Seventeen (yes, still!) are my top favorites. I purchased a subscription to HouseBeautiful for my mom last year and browse through the issues when she's finished with them. I also like to read magazines from back to front... is that weird??

I nominate the following bloggers:

Diamonds, Dogtags & Diapers
Melissa Faye
The Noir Blanc
Food Wine Fashion
Life In My Fab Lane
Simply Whit In A Sequined Life
Sparkle and Shine On
Food, Sweat & Inspiration
Sugar Love Chic
Jess Style Rules
Kate Styled Pretty

YOUR QUESTIONS
1. Favorite social media platform & why: Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest?
2. Why did you start blogging?
3. What are your top three favorite blogs?
4. If you had to use just one beauty item for the rest of your life, what would it be?
5. Big city or small town kinda gal?
6. All-time favorite nail polish shade?
7. TV show guilty pleasure?
8. Favorite season and why?
9. What is your "day job"?
10. If someone handed you $500 fast cash RIGHT NOW, how would you spend it?
11. What is something you have always wanted to do?

Be sure to leave a comment with a link to your answers, I'm looking forward to getting to know you better!

This week I'm serving up a delicious (and healthy!) green juice that you can have two ways-- drink it one way one day, then switch it up for the next!

A Good Hue Green Juice

Enjoy!

Four Favorites: Leopard

I'll admit, I'm not a huge leopard fan-- I always preferred zebra print-- in fact, I  don't own any only own one dress that is leopard print.  I do however like the print it in small doses-- a wallet, accessories, a hint here or there. The below are my favorite ways to wear leopard:

1. I caught these Merona Meg Chunky Heel Pumps from Target on a blog last week and thought they were actually super cute, especially when paired with cuffed boyfriend jeans

2. This MICHAEL Michael Kors Studded Calf Hair Belt combines the best of two fun trends: Leopard and studs. Belts are an easy accessory and can be paired with a variety of outfits.

3. Bralettes and classy crop tops have become my favorite under garment of choice to wear under flowy tops, tank tops, or any apparel with gaping arm holes. I love the dainty hint of leopard on this Leopard Trip Crop Bra from Free People. Plus it's pink!

4. A new must on my leopard wish list? This gorgeous Diane von Furstenberg Leopard Print Wallet. Meow!

Have you spotted any amazing leopard printed finds? Please share!

Ready for Fall: Target Boots Under $35

Fall Boots from Target

On my recent trip to Target this past weekend, I couldn't help but wander over to the shoe section to check out new styles. My favorites were the above from Mossimo Supply Co. and the best part? All are just $34.99!

Top L-R: Khloe Blanket Topped Trooper BootKaden Studded Strap Ankle Boot
Bottom L-R: Karen Moccasin Wedge BootKaley Studded Boots

I will most likely be going back for the Khloe Boots-- I love how you can roll and button them down for two totally different looks-- and I am loving the moccasins in grey.  While at Target, I did end up picking up these cutie Sam & Libby summer sandals on clearance for just $7.48... score!

Which boot trend are you "falling" for?
