DO or DON'T: High-Waisted Bikini

Images via: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |

One of the biggest trends of summer 2014 is the high-waisted bikini. While I don't think this style is right for me and my string bean figure, I think it works for those with a more curvy figure. What do you say, is it a DO or a DON'T?

Summertime Sippin': Passion Tea Lemonade Recipe

Homemade Passion Tea Lemonade

My most favorite drink on a hot summer day is Starbuck's Passion Tea Lemonade, yet they can start adding up if I start buying them too often... oops! To make it easier on my wallet, and to be able to have PTL whenever I'd like, I started making them at home. You can go the SUPER easy way and use a pre-made lemonade (I love them with Hubert's Lemonade!) or make your own lemonade.

Happy sipping on your own pretty pink PTL :)

PTL- Passion Tea Lemonade
5 Tazo Passion Tea Bags
Honey, Agave Nectar or other form of Sweetener
Ice Cubes

Steep passion tea in about 5 cups of boiling water, about 5-10 minutes; store concentrate in a container in the refrigerator. For lemonade, try this recipe honey-sweetened version from Red & Honey.

Fill a cup with ice and add about 2/3 passion tea concentrate, fill rest of glass with lemonade and add sweetener to taste. Enjoy!

Casual Work Wear: Florals

Dress: Urban Outfitters | Blazer: Forever 21 (similar) | Shoes: Seychelles | Arrow Bracelet: Gorjana & Griffin | Arrow Ring: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohls (similar)

This has to be one of my favorite dresses in my closet, it's just so girly! I love the pastel, minty green, the pretty, dainty flowers and the feminine ruffles. Can you believe this dress is 4 years old this summer?

I also love this dress because I can add a single layer to it to class it up a bit for work-- my white blazer. The white is less harsh for spring and summer and especially nice if you're in an office like mine that has the AC turned up high. If you don't have a white blazer, go get one... now!

In other news-- about a week and a half ago I twisted my wrist... while using a wristlet. Who does that?!? Apparently me. Owwies! At least I got out of push-ups in pilates ;)

Happy Thursday folks, Friday is just around the corner. Oh, and don't forget to enter my $25 Target gift card giveaway!

Summer Favorites

This week I'm rounding up my #FourFavorites for summer! Here's what I'm loving:

1. Cute Summer Sandals: I can't get through summer without getting a new pair of flat summer sandals. They're just so easy to slip on and head out-- the only problem is there are too many cute styles to choose from! Right now I'm loving these from Kelly & Katie

2. Cuffed Denim Shorts: With it being so hot here in SoCal, especially inland where I live, shorts are a must. As soon as I get home, everything comes off and on goes the shorts! I've been wanting a pair of longer cuffed denim shorts, such as this J.Crew pair.

3. Lazy Pool Days: There's nothing like a lazy weekend, especially when it involves floating around the pool! How fun would it be to float around in a donut? Reminds me of The Simpsons :P

4. Passion Iced Tea Lemonade: It's hard to not get addicted to Starbuck's Shaken Iced Tea Lemonades but they can start to get pricey. Lucky for me they are super easy to make at home, so now I can have a refreshing, yummy drink anytime I want!

Vacation Travel Beauty Essentials + $25 Target Gift Card Giveaway

Travel Beauty Essentials

Target Gift Card Giveaway

When heading out of town for vacation or a quick weekend getaway, I have my cute travel cosmetics bag ready with my travel beauty essentials. Luckily, I can find all  my must-haves at my one-stop local Target store. Here's what's in my travel beauty bag:

1. Orla Kiely Poppy Beauty Organizer: This bag may be small but you can pack quite a bit in it. With two zippered pouches and inside pockets, I was able to fit all of the above in (minus my sunnies) with room to spare. I'm loving the summery patterns of these bags!

2. Xhilaration® Tortoise Surf Sunglasses: Although not technically a beauty item, my sunnies are a travel must to keep me from squinting in the bright sun. That in turn reduces wrinkles so I'm totally counting these as a beauty must :P

3. Yes to Cucumbers Face Towelettes: Even though I'm on vacation I can't forgo removing my makeup and sunscreen at the end of the day. These wipes are perfect for travel, removing my makeup and leaving a cooling effect on my skin.

4. Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Beauty Balm BB Bronzer SPF 20: If there's one makeup product that is a must, it't this bronzer. With BB properties, this bronzer does so much more in addition to a fresh-faced glow.

5. Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer: To keep up my vacay tan and to keep my skin moisturized, I like using this daily moisturizer. Psst... for the past couple of weeks Target had had these 2 oz. travel sizes at just $0.17 cents!

6. Gillette Venus Snap with Embrace Women's Razor: If there is one thing I am always forgetting to grab when packing it's my razor. I absolutely love how compact this lil guy is-- it even comes in a case to easily pack in your toiletry bag or in your purse.

7. Neutrogena Clear Face Lotion SPF 55: With combination skin and being prone to chin breakouts, I don't use just any sunscreen on my face. This lotion covers and protects my face for hours without leaving a greasy feeling or clogging my pores.

8. EOS Blueberry Acai Lip Balm: This lip balm has been going every where with me so vacation is no exception. It keeps my lips hydrated and a sweet blueberry-ish flavor.

9. Sinful Colors Professional Nail Color in Energetic Red: Bright coral red polishes scream summer to me so when I found this one on the clearance shelf for just $1.38 I had to have it!

10. Burt's Bees Facial Cleanser - Soap Bark & Chamomile: Target even offers natural travel beauty products, including this gently moisturizing cleanser.

11. Remington Anywear Ribbon Elastics: Putting my hair back and getting it off my neck, especially when in the heat or in the water, it a must as well. I love using ribbon elastics as  they don't leave creases in my hair and are easy to take out without getting tangled. I love that they come in fun summery colors!

Summer Ginger Beer Drinks

I have been absolutely addicted to ginger beer lately and I find it to be the perfect summer drink-- it's refreshing, blends perfectly with mint and citrus such as lemon and lime, and it has the perfect spice to it. Aside from the traditional moscow mule, I rounded up a five more drink recipes (surprise! Not all contain alcohol) that feature yummy ginger beer:

HonestlyYum's Cardamom Moscow Mule

Recipe Girl's Ginger Beer Lemonade

Sear, Sip, Stir's Ginger Beer Mojito

Martha Stewart's Ginger Mint Margarita

HGTV's Spicy Raspberry Lemonade

Enjoy your weekend!

Floral Drawstring Pants: Styled 3 Ways

A few months ago I purchased a cute pair of drawstring floral pants from Forever 21, similar to the pair pictured above. I've only worn them a couple of times because honestly, I'm not sure how to best style them. Below, I put together three outfits featuring these pants: casual with fun nautical-themed accessories, styling the pants for work with a blazer and strappy sandals, and a weekend boho look.

How would you style these pants?

Four Favorites: Life's A Party, Dress Like It Summer Favorites

Hey everyone! For this week's Four Favorites I have a very special guest, Paige from Life's A Party, Dress Like It. Paige is a fellow LA girl with a fun, fab style. Her blog has a laid-back Cali vibe, but she's always sporting something trendy and cute. Check out her favorites below, go give her a follow and be sure to link up with her for Stylish Tuesdays!

Hi lovely readers of A Good Hue!

My dear friend Amanda asked me to write a guest post and I was over the moon! My name is Paige and I'm a fellow LA girl and the blogger behind Life's A Party, Dress Like It

Amanda asked me to share four of my favorite things with y'all and wWith Summer literally upon us, (although let's be real Summer is always upon us in sunny os Angeles,) I couldn't help but share my four favorite things about Summertime!

Jack Rogers: To say I live in my Jack Rogers would be an exterme understatement. Need to dress up a casual outfit? Throw on the jacks. Want to be comfortable at a wedding without heels and don't know what to pair with your fancy dress? Throw on the jacks. On your way to the beach? Throw on the jacks. I think you get the point!

These sandals were made to be worn day in and day out and still look brand new. They're a little pricey at around $100 a pop but trust me you'll wear them with everything. I shamefully have 4 or 5 pairs!

Francescas Westlake Shorts: I went into Francesca's the other day and tried on a pair of these shorts and about died when I felt like I was wearing PJ's! Not only are these shorts amaze-balls but I'm all about printed shorts for the Summer! They pair perfectly with a basic tank or tee which we all already have! Trust me you'll want to grab a few pairs of printed shorts this season and you'll thank me when you're in a rush to an event and you already have a great go-to outfit!

Cinespia Movies at Hollywood Forever: I'm sure a lot of you aren't from LA but there's probably some type of outdoor movie watching to be done near where you are or a drive in theatre! While we have plenty of movie viewing options in LA, I absolutely LOVE going to the Hollywood Forever to catch a flick.

Yes Hollywood Forever is where all of the rich and famous are currently 6 feet under, but it's kind of cool to walk around a cemetery with your cooler full of brie cheese and wine to enjoy an old movie with a great group of friends!

Essie 2014 Neon Nail Polish Collection: Who doesn't love painting their nails a fun color during the Summer? The 2014 Neon collection from Essie is sheer perfection!

Summer To-Do List

Summer bucket list
Image Via

A couple weeks ago, I told my boyfriend of how I keep a list of goals on my iPhone and put a little ‘thumbs up’ Emoji next to ones I’ve completed. I’m a total list-maker—packing lists, shopping lists (I have an app for that- ShopShop), to-do lists, lists for work, gift lists, you name it. One list I have never made before though is a list for summer… until now that is! I came up with 25 to-do’s for summer, and it wasn’t easy. I had to rack my brain for a few of these and even look at some other lists for inspiration.

With summer officially starting just a couple days ago, I’ll be giving myself to Labor Day to ‘thumbs up’ these summer to-do’s:

Kayaking: I have never kayaked and it’s been on my to-do list for the last couple of years. The bf thinks he’ll end up getting stuck with most of the rowing work. He’s probably right…shhh.

Pizza on the Grill: Not sure when this became a ‘thing’ but I keep spotting recipes for cooking pizza on a grill… and they look absolutely amazing!

Random Weekend Trip:  Living on the West Coast there are so many options to get away for a quick weekend trip—Vegas, San Francisco, Palm Springs, Central Cali, San Diego, Colorado River—all great options to randomly pack up for a quick getaway and being back in time for work on Monday.

Road Trip: Maybe combine this one and above for a totally random weekend road trip? I would love to visit the Grand Canyon, road trip along the Cali coast up to NorCal or head up to Mammoth or Tahoe.

Read More Books: I have about 40 books on my Goodreads reading list and I do love to read when I can find the time. My goal this summer is to knock through a good chunk of them, at least 10.

Grow Herbs: … and don’t kill them. I need to work on my green thumb; apparently I have zero plant skills because somehow all my herbs end up dying on me.

Movie Night at the Drive-In:  We have a drive-in up the street (literally, it’s less than 2 miles away) and I have never been. I’m not a fan of movie theaters but a movie in my car? That I could handle.

Ride Bike:  I purchased a bike several years ago and I’ve only ridden it a handful of times. This summer, my plan is to get more use out of it. Tip: You won’t get very far uphill on a beach cruiser without any gears. Trust me.

Go to the Beach: When I lived in Manhattan Beach, the beach was practically my backyard. However, since moving inland to Chino I haven’t been going as much. I think I went once last year, maybe twice. This summer my goal is at least 3 times, hopefully more, and one of those times MUST be a beach bonfire.

Indoor Go-Kart Racing: The bf keeps saying how we should go and do this… um, let’s go!

Make Ice Cream/Sorbet: Without an ice cream maker. Any recipe recommendations?

Eat at One New Restaurant Each Month: There are always new restaurants popping up and so many existing that I haven’t been to. Now is the time to change that and try something new each month. To make this to-do even more challenging, I’ll order a dish I wouldn’t normally go for.
          June: Slater's 50/50

Photography e-Course: Learn how to properly use my Canon camera and take it out of auto-mode (Aperture? ISO? HUH?!?) and learn how to take better pictures in general.

Homemade Macarons: I found this Frosted Flakes macarons recipe  that I’ve been meaning to try for a few months now…*UPDATE* I tried the recipe and they came out great! Can’t wait to make the next batch!

Attend Blog Events:  I had to miss out on the last few blogging events I’ve been invited to. Next time, I’m making it a priority to attend.

Try New Summer Recipes: I love cooking, but sometimes I get into ruts where I feel like I’m making the same thing over and over again. I want to try new recipes with distinct summer flavors.

Pinterest DIY Projects: Crafty projects can be so much fun (with a few fails here and there), but I’ve come across a few on Pinterest I want to try. Now I need to actually do them.

Wine tasting in Temecula: Wine tasting in Napa? Been there, done that. Now I need to visit some wineries and taste some wines closer to home in the Temecula valley.

Visit Friends: It’s true that as you get older and busier in life—work, significant others, kids etc.— and you figure out who you want in your life, some friendships can start taking a back seat. There are a few friendships that are worth salvaging, or at least catching up on over drinks… or better yet, brunch.

Bottomless Mimosa Brunch: Speaking of brunch, I‘d love to spend a lazy Saturday or Sunday having a bottomless mimosa brunch— food + drinks is always a win! Well, unless you have one mimosa too many…

Movie in the Park: There’s so many parks in the LA area that offer movies in the parks—even local ones. How fun would it be to grab some seats, pack a cooler, and chill watching a movie in the park with your friends?

Take Walks After Dinner: Steve and I started doing this last month but didn’t keep it up. I’d like to get back to it, at least 3 times a week.

Visit The Getty: I’ve been to most of the biggie museums in Los Angeles- LACMA, MOCA, Norton Simon, Natural History Museum… but I have never been to The Getty. Must go!

Treat Boyfriend to a Baseball Game: While he’s not a huge sports fan, he does like baseball. Junk food and beer? I’m cool with that!

Inspire Someone to Create a Summer List: Help me cross this one off my list-- let me know if you created your own summer list and leave your post link in the comments!

Check back with me after Labor Day to see what actually got accomplished. What’s on your summer to-do list? Share!

Sunday Edition: [Father's Day]

Wishing a very happy Father's Day to one of my favorite people, my dad. He's always been there for me, whether I needed something fixed, something moved, or just to lend support. Thank you for absolutely everything, I couldn't wish for a better daddy. I love you!
