When August hits, I start feeling like I’m burned out, low on energy, and just all around blah. Sometimes I need to give my body a break from poor eating (and, let’s be honest, drinking) habits and go into detox mode to help restore balance and reduce the stress on my body.
Here’s 3 ways to give your body a summer detox:
1. Detox Bath
I have been taking a sea salt bath once a week for the last couple of weeks and while I’m not sure if I’m actually detoxing my body or not, the baths are very relaxing and a good way to de-stress. I soak in the salts and include a few drops of lavender essential oil, grab a book and relax for 20-30 minutes before bed. It’s calming, helps me unwind, and makes it easy for me to fall asleep.
2. Juice Cleanse
It’s no secret that I’ve been into juicing for the past year—I love making my own juice concoctions and drinking them straight or incorporating them into my morning breakfast smoothies. I feel good and healthy when I cleanse and the juices are really yummy so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on any foods. Will you magically lose 10 pounds? Probably not, but will you feel good? Yes!
3. Clean Eating
I have good intentions on eating healthy, I really do, but this is the area I fall short in. When I juice cleanse, I will eat clean for a couple days leading up to and then after the cleanse but aside from that I have a hard time staying away from my favorite foods. This month, I’m setting a goal to eat if not clean than healthier options—more salads, greens, organic and good-for-you foods and less junk. Like they say, you are what you eat and if you eat crap you will feel like crap.
Happy detoxing!
