Actively Getting Active

Starting to exercise

I've never been much of an active person-- sports were never my thing, I spent more time chatting and goofing off in PE than actually being physical. I haven't worked out in years and I feel so inactive-- I think the office slump has been taking over.

The hard part is getting started but I'm writing this blog post as a vow to get up and get with it.

Tell me, how do you stay fit and active?

Peanut Butter Protein Bites

Energy bites

Protein bites

Protein bites

They may kinda sort of look like meatballs, but these little balls pack a lot of protein and a lot of flavor. They are no-bake and SUPER easy to make. Almost too easy. I had to double check to make sure I wasn't missing any steps. Packed with oats, seeds, nuts, chocolate, and of course peanut butter, these balls are a great mid-morning snack or afternoon pick me up-- and they're so good you'll forget about all the goodness they're packing!

Peanut Butter Protein Bites
1/2 cup Peanut Butter
1 cup Old Fashioned Oats (dry)
1/3 cup Honey
1/2 cup Ground Flax Seed (or wheatgerm)
1/2 cup Peanuts
1/2 cup Chocolate Chips (I used semi-sweet since that's what I had, but you can use cacao nibs, dark chocolate, whatever suits your fancy!)
1 tbsp. Chia Seeds
1 tsp. Pure Vanilla Extract

Other optional ingredients:
Coconut flakes
White chocolate chips
Dried cranberries
Other dried fruits
Other nuts (crushed almonds, pecans, cashews)

Crush peanuts and chocolate chips (I put in food processor for a couple of quick pulses); put all ingredients in bowl and mix to combine. I ended up mixing with my hands because it was a lot easier to get all the ingredients combined, but very sticky. Good excuse to lick my fingers :P

Cover bowl and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. When ready, pinch off some "dough" and roll into balls, about 1-inch diameter. If you prefer larger or smaller balls, go for it. Store balls in the refrigerator in an air-tight container. For alternatives, try including the other ingredients for balls that are all your own!

Happy munching ;)

Four Favorites: Pretty In Pastels

spring pastel

I've always been drawn to soft colors and pastels, growing up (and to this day!) I love lighter and softer shades of pink. Spring always makes me think of pastels and I am always so happy to see pretty pastels in the stores... and most importantly, in my closet. Here's a few pastel finds that I'm drooling over this week:

I mean, how adorable are those cut out booties?!? Tell me, are you loving spring pastels?

Oh, Honey Honey (+DIY Honey Facial Cleanser)

DIY honey cleanser

Sweeten up this spring with honey! Not just to eat, honey has amazing benefits for your skin-- including antibacterial properties to help fight acne, antioxidants to help slow the signs of aging, it's moisturizing so it is great for dry skin and is clarifying to help unclog pores... not to mention it tastes great!

I rounded up a few products that include honey in the ingredients-- these are all must-tries, especially the honey sugar scrub and the honey bath. As an extra special treat, I posted details on a DIY honey cleanser recipe below.

As a project for one of my classes at FIDM, we made homemade skincare-- this was one of the recipes I used to make a wonderful, gentle honey facial wash:

Honey Facial Cleanser
3 tbsp Honey (you want the 'runny' kind, not raw)
2 tbsp Castile Soap (liquid- I use Dr. Bronner's)
1/2 cup Vegetable Glycerin

Mix the three ingredients in a bowl; pour into container (I use either an empty facial wash container or travel container). Happy washing!

Happy Friday! So if you haven't noticed by now, I'm just slightly obsessed with floral prints. I know, I know-- it's such a cliche spring trend but whatever-- I like what I like! Another thing I love is my moccasins; they're just so comfy and cute. While I have these to wear out, I also have a pair of moccasin slippers; I even bought Steve a pair for Christmas... and now he's obsessed!

What are you currently obsessing over?

Four Favorites: Spring Trends

crop tops

This week, I'm sharing and linking up my four favorite spring trends: Crop tops, especially floral crop tops are super cute, especially paired with maxi skirts, tapered pants, or even high-waisted shorts. Another trend that I have liked for a few years continues to be in-- fringe-- which I love on handbags! Denim is always in, as is pencil skirts and what better than to blend them? Plaid has been huge for the past few years and I'm glad to see it take the backseat this season to gingham.

Which of these spring trends is your favorite?

St. Patrick's Day Recipe Roundup

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I don't do much to celebrate St. Patrick's Day but I do love a yummy plate of corned beef and cabbage! Along with this St. Paddy's Day staple, here's a few others to get your celebration under way:

Get your party off to the right start with this delicious Cheesy Beer Dip from The Noshery. I made this yesterday and it received rave reviews-- amazing!

Corned Beef and Cabbage is a MUST for St. Patrick's Day, there's just no way around it. I like mine with potatoes as well. Try this easy recipe from The Parsley Thief.

A comfort food favorite, if CB&C isn't your thing, try a delicious Shepherd's Pie, such as this dish of yummy-ness from Iowa Girl Eats.

Wash it all down with a festive drink, such as this pineapple, ginger, lime-based Shamrock Punch from Daily Mom.

End your meal with a large slice of Grasshopper Pie (recipe from Brown Eyed Baker), a must if your a chocolate mint combo fan (I'm not but I'd be willing to give this a try!)

If you're like me and not feeling the mint, these Boozy St. Patrick's Day Cupcakes from The Wily Hound may be more up your alley.

Finish it all off with a delicious, cream topped Irish Coffee, this recipe from The Pioneer Woman looks easy and amazing.... mmmmmm!

Enjoy your St. Patrick's Day!

I happened into Forever21 last week (you know, by accident) and honestly, it looked like Coachella threw up in there. Not a bad thing-- especially if you're looking for a fringe crop top or cut-off denim shorts. I was happy to see so many florals, a spring must-have, including this dress... perfect to pair with my standby favorites: chambray and boots!

PS- How amazing is a Starbuck's Passion Tea Lemonade on a hot day??

Four Favorites: St. Patrick's Day

Four Favorites

Upon picking out my Four Favorites this week, I realized I must not be a huge fan of green. No real reason,  I just never wear it on it's own. In fact, I can't think of anything I own that is solely green, besides my military jacket. I think I need to infuse more green into my life.

With St. Patrick's  Day coming up I wanted to highlight a few of my favorites that revolved around the holiday but weren't necessarily green. First, how cute are these DIY St. Paddy's Day glasses? I'm also loving this print this week-- it's so true, hard work WILL pay off. Also, you can't celebrate without a few lucky charms such as this 4 Leaf Clover Necklace and Lucky Horseshoe Bracelet!

Wishing you a fun and green St. Patrick's Day weekend!
