Classically Simple

Rebecca Minkoff 5 Zip

Paige Denim

Stella and Dot Renegade Bracelet

#Nsale
Tank: Forever 21 (similar) | Jeans: Paige Denim | Handbag: Rebecca Minkoff | Black Flats: Target (similar) | Bracelet: Stella & Dot | Rings: Forever 21

I usually try to stay away from big sales unless I absolutely need something. Emphasis on 'try.' I totally failed during Nordstrom's big sale and gave in to this gorgeous blushing beauty. I've been good on the handbag front and decided to treat myself and I couldn't be happier, I love this Rebecca Minkoff bag

Sometimes you just need to keep it simple-- less makeup, easy hair, and a classic pair of jeans. What's not so simple are the details on this top with a peek-a-boo back and embroidered front (easier to see in the last image above). Sometimes I'm surprised at what I can find at Forever 21.

Thanks for stopping by!

PS: Have you tried VSCOcam for your photos? Between that and Afterlight I feel like an iPhone photo editing pro. Emphasis on 'feel like.' Check it out!

Top Favorites of Summer 2014

1. I just can't go wrong with my trusty Panama hat, it's just continues to be the most perfect accessory for summer. Especially on lazy hair days.

2. I ran out of moisturizer and wanted to try a different type that would be good for combination skin. My skin has always been pretty dry but I started getting an oily t-zone and chin breakouts in the last couple of years. I picked up Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion + and so far, I am loving it! Nordstrom has a really good price ($38!) on an exclusive set that includes the larger size (6.7 oz.,) and the travel size. Get on this!

3. True story, I have been coveting a Rebecca Minkoff bag for like, ever. Who hasn't?? I had the opportunity to meet her when I was interning with mark. several years ago and have been wanting a bag from her ever since. I finally bit the bullet last week during the #NSale and purchased this blushing beauty. No regrets.

4. I realized last month that I was in desperate need of shorts that didn't leave my cheeks hanging out, especially if I'm wearing shorts to say, the grocery store.. not a good look. I have been living in these AEO shorties since, they're comfy, the cover the behind well and they look cute!

5. I've mentioned on here before that I'm pretty religious about my sunscreen, especially when it comes to my face. Walking into work after a long weekend looking lobster-ish? No thanks! I have been obsessed with applying Neutrogena's Clear Face sunscreen, it's oil-free, has SPF of 55 and doesn't feel greasy at all. If you have combination skin like I do, I highly recommend this stuff.

6.  I seem to permanently have Lana del Rey stuck in my head-- last year it was "Summertime Sadness" and this summer I have her sultry "West Coast" on loop in my head. I'm a Lana fan so I can't say that I mind.

Chapped: Fixes For Dry Lips

Dry lips

This past weekend we headed out to the Nevada/Arizona border for some water fun out on Lake Mohave. Despite the super-hot temperatures we had a great time and I came home feeling relaxed and with a fab tan! However, continuously applying lip balm is no match for the dry desert and I also came home with dry, chapped lips. To help save my lips and get some moisture back into them, here’s a few fixes:

Softlips Cube

1.       I keep a moisturizing ChapStick balm in my purse, Softlips Lip Protectant Cube on my desk and EOS Lip Balm by my bed so I’m constantly reminded to reapply. With EOS, I find that it has really good staying power—I can put it on before going to sleep and I will wake up in the morning still feeling it on whereas with Softlips I have to reapply more often. Then again I’m eating, drinking, speaking and using my lips more during my waking hours.

Dry Chapped Lips
2.       I have a really bad habit of biting on lips when they’re dry and unfortunately it makes me more susceptible to cold sores. Ew, right? For me, Abreva cold sore topical treatment works fairly quickly when I apply to a cold sore before it gets huge and cracked (the worst, if you get them you know what I’m talking about) but a tiny tube is pretty pricey, I think around $20?? The last time I started getting a cold sore I applied tea tree essential oil topically to the cold sore instead and found that it works even quicker… plus it’s cheaper!

Chapped lips remedies

3.       A lip scrub helps to gently remove layers of dead skin from your lips and help them to become smooth. I am LOVING the Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub, you can read my full review here. If your lips are super dry, Bliss’ Fabulips Pout-O-Matic Lip Exfoliating Tool will definitely come in handy to help with the exfoliation process and is pretty cool but I find that you can get away with just using a scrub to remove dry skin.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment

4.       If I'm in the mood for color, I use a tinted lip balm, preferably with SPF in it to not only add some color to my lips but to help moisturize and protect my lips as well. I am almost out of my favorite Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 and will have to pick up more soon.

Recipe: Homemade No-Churn Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

A Good Hue Ice Cream Recipe

Oh man, have I got a sweet recipe for you to try out this weekend, and like most of my recipes I share, it is SO easy. Yes, easy homemade no-churn chocolate chip ice cream. I was actually surprised at how simple this recipe is—few ingredients, simple directions and no churning or ice cream maker needed. The perfect treat for this hot, HOT weekend!

I have wanted to make a no-churn ice cream for a few months now and was so happy to find a few different recipes that I could base mine from. I decided to keep mine super simple but if you’re looking for options, I recommend this mint chip recipe (it has rum!) and this peach ice cream recipe.

Homemade No-Churn Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
Recipe adapted from Honestly Yum

Ingredients:
1 ¼ cup Heavy Whipping Cream
⅔ cup Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
½ cup Mini Chocolate Chips (or chopped larger chips or chocolate pieces, whatever floats your boat)
4-6 Sugar Cones
Additional ⅛ cup of Chocolate Chips for cone dipping

Using a mixer on medium speed, whip together the chilled cream, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Fold in the chocolate chips. Pour cream mixture into a freezer safe dish (I used a cake pan, a loaf pan would work great as well) and spread evenly. Freeze for 4-6 hours to set.

When ice cream is ready, melt additional chocolate chips in microwave on high for :30 second intervals until melted. Dip tops of cones into melted chocolate and smooth around edges with a spatula, decorate with sprinkles. You can even put some of the melted chocolate into the bottom of the cones! Put the cones in the freezer for a couple of minutes so chocolate sets. While waiting, remove ice cream from freezer and allow to sit for a couple of minutes or so at room temperature so it’s easier to scoop. When the chocolate on the cones has hardened, scoop and enjoy!

Makes 4-6 servings, depending on how big your scoops are. Use this base recipe and experiment with your own add-ins to make an ice cream that is truly your own. Love cookies and cream? Add in some broken up chocolate cookie pieces!

Good HUES-Day: 5 Lip Colors for Summer

Today I'm rounding up my top 5 lip colors for summer but I have a horrible secret-- I haven't even been wearing ANY lip color lately. I used to be all about lip color and it's apparent from the cosmetic case I have that's filled with lip products-- glosses, lipsticks, lip stains, lip pencils, you name it! I've been super bad about wearing lip products, besides balm, for the past year and have been sticking to one or two nude-pink safe shades when I do wear color. BOOOORRR-RRRING!

I'm vowing to step it up and start wearing some more color on my lips this summer, especially pretty corals, fuchsias and hot pinks, and peaches-- whether it's a peachy coral lipstick or a sheer nude pink. Hey, I'm not totally going to give up on my safety color-- it goes with everything!

What is your favorite lip product for summer?

Review: Beautisol Medium Self-Tanning Mousse

best self-tanning

You may remember several weeks ago when I reviewed Beautisol’s Exscrub Me? Citrus Face Exfoliant, today I’m back with another product review Beautisol's Medium Self-Tanning Mousse, a vegan and cruelty-free lightweight, quick-drying self-tanner.

Using the applicator mitt, I applied the mousse tanner to my body, starting with my legs. When applying self-tanners, I highly recommend using an applicator mitt as it helps to evenly distribute the product and does not leave any streaks. Plus, your hands stay clean and tanner-free!

self-tanner application

I had used the tanner the previous week and have been outside in the sun so my legs had more color already, however you can quickly the color develops just moments after applying.

While the tanning effect is immediate, the color will continue to deepen throughout the day. For best results, the packaging directs to exfoliate in the shower first before applying product and to stay away from water for 6-8 hours while the color develops. One of the things I love most about this formula is that it is quick drying. I can pretty much apply it and minutes later put on my clothes without creating a tanning mess.

The other best part of this tanner is that it doesn’t have that icky tanning odor! The product is formulated with what Beautisol calls PURE SCENT technology, which basically eliminates any tanner processing fragrances. Another bonus? Apparently the self-tanner includes anti-aging properties that help moisturize skin as well… who doesn’t love multi-functionality?

self-tanner application

As you can see, the color is natural and orange-free… and no streaks! Beautisol products can be purchased at beautisol.com and just for my readers, Beautisol is offering 15% off any purchase using code BBLOGGER

Trust Your Guts

Trust Your Guts tee

AEOstyle

Huntington Beach

There's nothing like a casual day at the beach in shorts and a tee, especially when cruising down the bike path. I hadn't been on my bike in several months and surprisingly made it through the day without getting hit by a car, crashing into one or anything, and not falling. Go me!

Okay so I have to talk about this tee for a little bit. Have you heard of Target Does It Again? If you're not already following them on Instagram go do so! The duo who run the account, Jen and Laura, have also teamed up to launch their own line of apparel, accessories and amazing vintage finds, Ascot + Hart. They have the coolest style, fab taste and an awesome line. Cool fact-- these gals had only met once through a mutual friend when they started Target Does It Again!

PS- Please excuse the hat hair :P
