Good HUES-Day: 5 Must- Have Makeup Brushes

Happy Tuesday! Every beauty enthusiast knows that it's important to have good makeup brushes in their beauty arsenal. Today, I'm showing you my 5 must-have makeup brushes, read more below!

Powder Brush: Make sure it's big and make sure it's fluffy! I'm really liking the new IT Brushes for Ulta collection-- it's ultra soft, the handle is stable, and works beauty-fully.

Foundation Brush: Another one from the IT Brushes for Ulta collection, it's a little different from traditional flat foundation brushes. I used to use makeup sponges for foundations/creams but have now been using this one to blend my BB cream, which it does amazingly. I get an even application, it smoothes out the cream and blends the cream well into my skin. Two thumbs up!

Stippling Brush: I know your are looking at the photo above and wondering 'How ancient is that brush?!?' Well, yeah. But it still works amazing, why fix it if it ain't broke? I love this brush for applying highlighters and using the brush to stipple it on my cheeks for a pretty glow.

Crease Blending Brush: If I were allowed to only have one eye shadow brush, hands down it would be this one.

All Over Shadow Brush: I use a larger shadow brush to apply base colors as well as my highlight shades on brow bone. I like how it evenly distributes shadow over my entire lid.

What one brush in your beauty tool kit is you must-have?

Review: Urban Decay Naked2 Basics

I'm changing up Saturday Style with a review that I meant to get up earlier this week-- Urban Decay Naked2 Basics palette. I have been using the Naked Basics palette for over a year and was excited when this one came out a couple weeks ago.

I was actually looking for a shade to replace WOS from the Naked Basics palette (Urban Decay, please make this shade a single!) and ended up intrigued with the colors in this palette.. .I love them! The shades in Naked2 Basics are cooler taupe/gray shades whereas Naked Basics is more warm. Grays have been big for me this fall so you know I'm all over these!

Shades L-R: Skimp (soft beige, satin), Stark (nude pink, matte), Frisk (soft warm gray, matte), Cover (soft brown, matte), Primal (reddish-brown gray, matte), Undone (charcoal gray, matte)

The pigment of these shades is good and surprisingly for mattes, the shadows do not look chalky. While I like all the colors, I'd rather use Venus as a highlight over Skimp as it's lighter and pops more.

Below are swatches on my light skin, Frisk and Stark are hard to see, my kitchen's light isn't that great, sorry!

Naked2 Basics compared with Naked Basics-- you can use both palettes interchangeable as all the shades will complement each other.

Today I'm wearing a soft nude look with a subtle cat eye:

Base: Stark
Crease: Cover
Highlight: Skimp

Have you tried Naked2 Basics or Naked Basics? What do you think? Share!

Fall Juicer Sangria

A Good Hue

I'm not sure what I love more-- a glass of fresh juice straight from my juicer or the perfect glass of wine. Luckily, Williams-Sonoma had the perfect solution by challenging me to create my very own Sangria recipe using fresh juice. Juicer sangria... a total 'Why Didn't I Think of This Before?!?' moment for me!

If you own or have access to a juicer than you're already at step one, if you don't you can still make this recipe by cutting up all the fruit and letting it combine with the wine in a pitcher overnight. I wanted to make this Sangria with the flavors of fall so I chose apples, pears, plums and oranges. See below for the complete recipe:

Fall Sangria

Fall Jucier Sangria

Fall Juicer Sangria
Ingredients:
- 1 Bottle red wine (my favorite is Cupcake Vineyards' Cabernet Sauvignon)
- 2 Oranges + additional slices for garnish
- 2 Red Apples
- 1 Bartlett Pear
- 1 Bosc Pear
- 1 Red Plum
- 1 Black Plum

Directions:
Chop all the fruit into chunks-- removing cores, pits and peels-- and juice. I use the Bella High-Power Juice Extractor, which is a decent juicer for the price, however I end up having to run my pulp through several times to extract more juice out. Find more juicer options here.

Combine juice in a pitcher with a bottle of red wine-- whatever your favorite varietal is. Garnish with orange slices and chunks of apple and pear. Chill overnight for THE best tasting Sangria. Cheers!

Blogger Brunchin'

A couple weekends ago I attended the SoCal Blogger Society's fall brunch at Primitivo in Venice. It was so SO hot that day, even so close to the beach. Luckily we kept our cool, or at least attempted to, with mimosas and some great food. I had a great time connecting with other bloggers as well as catching up with a couple I already knew. Here's a few snaps of the day's outfit:

Jeans: Paige Denim (similar) | Sleeveless Blouse: Forever21 (similar) | Floppy Hat: H&M | Bag: Kate Spade | Heels: Steve Madden | Sunglasses: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohls (similar)

Cinnamon Roll Waffles = AH-MAZING.

It was also fun to catch up with some blogger friends-- Kate of Nautical By Nature and Leeann from Join the Gossip. If you're in the SoCal area, definitely check it out!

Also, a BIG thank you to Wendy W. Smith Photography for the photos!

Good HUES-Day: Fall Beauty

This week, I'm highlighting a few new standout beauty products for fall that I am dying to try:

I have full brows but I like to use brow powder to darken them a bit and even them out. Anatasia's new Dipbrow Pomemade sounds fantastic as I can fill in with color and it already includes a pomemade to smooth brows and stay put all day long.

For all the years I have been applying makeup, liquid liner can still be a bitch to apply (and make even!) so I tend to grab felt liner pens. I love that Benefit's They're Real liner pen has an angled tip to make applying super easy for a perfect cat eye.

I'm a sucker for a pretty nude palette... I mean, who isn't?? I love all the different nude shades and textures of the Bobbi Brown Nude on Nude Palette-- shimmer, matte and metallic-- that can create beautiful nude eye looks. I really don't need any new nude shades but you can't judge a girl for wanting.

Speaking of palettes, I could totally kick myself for not picking up Tarte's Rainforest After Dark Palette for a discount at their booth at BeautyCon. It has a blush, bronzer, highlighter and 6 shadows in gorgeous shades perfect for fall!

Heading out of summer my lips are always dry... ick! I love Fresh's lip treatments so their Sugar Lip Serum Advanced Therapy one is up there on my list to try!

I only started using BB cream this year (yes, totally late to that party!) and have been obsessed. I love how it smoothes, covers, yet feels light as air on my skin. The Dr. Jart+ BB Bounce BB sounds interesting-- bouncing textured?

Have you tried any of these products? Let me know!
