Favorite Outfits of 2015

Happy New Year's Eve all! It's unreal that we're already heading into 2016, can you believe it?!? This year was filled with fun times, such as my travels to the South, Yosemite, New York, and so many good times with family; sad times with the loss of some special people and getting some not-so-good news about others; along with some new discoveries, new friendships, new stresses and so much more. 2015 was definitely filled with some ups, but also some downs.

One 'up' for me has been this blog-- it's been a year filled with new ideas, new creations and new outfits. Here's a few of my favorites from this past year:

First off is this sweater-shorts combo from back in January-- we shot these in a park and it was a very chilly day, it even started drizzling! I love the mix of textures with the thin silky floral shorts and the chunky sweater. A cute knit beret topped off the look! Get all the details here >> Winter Outfit: Floral Shorts + Sweater

Most of my picks involve florals in some way-- I adore floral prints and if you don't then you should probably leave. Kidding! Joking aside, I came across this pretty pink floral kimono at H&M and HAD to have it. For this outfit, I paired it with a spiky necklace and fun hat. Plus, check out those cheeks-- #highlighteronfleek. Get the outfit details >> OOTD: February Florals

Remember the madness that was Lilly Pulitzer for Target? I think I hit the 'refresh' button about a million & one times before I was able to get these cutie shorts in my cart. I love the print, and especially the stretchy material since these are from the girls' section- I was so happy they actually fit! Here's the details on this look >> Breezy Spring Look

Confession: I had never worn a romper before this summer. And now I own three. I am totally on the romper bandwagon now and one of my favorites is this tropical print romper. The only thing missing is the fruity cocktail with an umbrella. See more & get all the details here >> Summer Rompin'

I wore this linen peach dress while exploring Savannah this summer because well, I was in Georgia and peaches. It just made sense in my mind. It turned out being a smart move because this dress is so airy and comfy-- I pretty much lived in it the rest of the summer. Get the outfit details >> Peachy Keen in Savannah

This one recently made it on my fall outfit favorites list too and honestly, it's probably my favorite outfit and photos from this entire year. I fell in love with these dark flares and everything about this look is on point, from the crisp white button down to the cognac accessories... well at least IMO, I'm a little biased though! Here are all the outfit details >> Flares with Flair

Another one of my fall favorites that also includes florals. I managed to scoop this dress up on sale and with its dark floral pattern, I found it to be the perfect piece to transition to fall. Once the weather turned chilly, I could add a pair of tights underneath or top with a coat. I also want to take a moment to appreciate these boots- they were (still are!) a hit all fall long. Get Organized: 5 Best Planners for 2016

Get Organized: 5 Best Planners for 2016
1. Day Designer | 2. Kate Spade New York 17-Month Agenda | 3. Sugar Paper Weekly/Monthly Planner | 4. Erin Condren Life Planner | 5. Emily Ley Simplified Planner

Does anyone else love pulling out a fresh, new planner and start filling it out? It's one of my favorite things about the new year-- empty pages just waiting to be filled out with plans, notes and ideas. I can't help it, I'm a total goober. And if you're a goober like that, we can be goobers together :P

Right now I'm using a Agenda-- it's fun, colorful, and perfect for what I need-- basically just reminders and an editorial calendar for A Good Hue. These sell out quick but you can keep checking the site and retailers for new stock. This year, Santa Steve put a small, pretty Sugar Paper weekly/monthly planner in my stocking-- at just 3"x6", I'm able to stick it in all my bags and take it wherever I go. Plus the blush color is gorgeous! If you need a little no-frills planner for on the go, this is a winner.

Check out a few of my other planner picks, including daily planners for you gals who have a lot more going on and need to keep life organized.

How are you 'planning' to stay organized in 2016?

First Look: DERMAFLASH Facial Exfoliating Treatment

First Look: DERMAFLASH Essentials Kit

Cooler weather can wreak havoc on my already dry skin so exfoliators are typically my bff during the winter months. This week, I received the DERMAFLASH The Essentials Kit, a facial exfoliating device,  and I can't wait to try it out. The spa-inspired kit promises to gently remove dead skin, dirt and even pesky peach fuzz creating a smooth, radiant facial canvas.

The Essentials Kit includes the DERMAFLASH Facial Exfoliating Device (including charger and base), six (6) x DERMAFLASH Exfoliating Edges, (1) 0.8 oz. tube Prep  and (1) 0.8 oz tube Soothe Here's a quick look at the kit, including the three easy steps for use:

First, wash face removing all makeup. Squeeze a dollop of DERMAFLASH PREP into hands and work into a lather then massage onto face. Rinse off thoroughly and dry face.

How to use: DERMAFLASH Essentials Kit

Carefully load a new exfoliating edge into the device-- they slide and click in easily. You'll want to use a new exfoliating edge each time you use the device (no more than once per week as noted).

Next, lay the device pad against your face to ensure proper positioning of the edge. In gentle strokes, sweep the edge down the cheeks, forehead, chin area and above lips to exfoliate and remove small hairs. As noted, you should use short, feathery strokes starting at your hairline and working in towards the middle of your face. Be sure to avoid brows, nose, lips and eye area.

After exfoliating, gently apply DERMAFLASH SOOTHE, a hydrating lotion, directly to your face.

In-Vested In Plaid

Fall Style: Plaid Shirt & Distressed Jeans with Vest

You guys. There is exactly one week until Christmas Eve and TWO weeks until New Year's Eve... like, what?!? Where did this year go?? While you sit and ponder that heavy question, I wanted to share an outfit that I wore to Knott's Merry Farm this past weekend. It's been awhile since I've been to Knott's around Christmas-time-- my mom had won free tickets from a local radio station so she took me along. We had a fun day (including a yummy chicken dinner at Mrs. Knott's Dinner Restaurant) and it was so festively decorated around the park-- in the evenings in Ghost Town they have the 'Snow & Glow' where the town lights up and it starts 'snowing,' Camp Snoopy is decorated, there's a Snoopy ice show, yummy festive treats, and you can even visit Santa-- super cute! Plus, it wasn't crowded at all so if any SoCal-ers are looking for some holiday fun, I definitely recommend heading over there.

Back to the outfit, what's more perfect for walking around a Western-themed park than plaid? Plus it's been a bit chilly (well, chilly to us out here- it dips below 75* and we freak out!) so a light puffer vest offered the perfect warmth. I feel like vests and plaid were made for each other. I glammed it up with a cute sequined beret that I've had for years and a pretty statement necklace. Perfect for the season and perfect for a day at Knott's. Happy holidays, ya'll!

Recipe File: Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

I was just mentioning to a co-worker yesterday that I am on a major soup kick. What with the weather being chilly and my being sick (sinus infection, yuck!), I just can't pass up a warm bowl of soup. Usually I go for some good ol' chicken noodle but I wanted to kick it up with a chicken tortilla soup, made super easy in the slow cooker. This chicken tortilla soup is definitely a soul-warmer. Here's the recipe:

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup
1 lb. Chicken Breast (grilled, then shredded)
Olive Oil
4 cups Chicken Stock
1 (14 oz) can Black Beans, rinsed and drained
1 (14 oz.) can Pinto Beans, rinsed and drained
1 can Diced Fire-Roasted Tomatoes with Green Chilies
3/4 cup Corn
1 Onion, diced
3 Cloves Garlic, minced
1 Chipotle Pepper (in adobo + ~1 tbsp. adobo sauce), minced
2 tsps. Chile Powder
2 tsps. Cumin
1 tsp. Oregano
1 tsp. Paprika
1 packet Ground 2 Table Spice Blend 2
Salt & Pepper
Garnishes: Chopped cilantro, lime wedges, diced avocado, diced red onion, shredded cheese, sour cream, tortilla strips/chips

To start, I prefer to puree my diced tomatoes and chilies with the garlic and chipotle in a food processor, but feel free to skip this step if you like your soup with chunky tomatoes. Add diced tomatoes and chilies, beans, corn, stock, onion, minced garlic and chipotle pepper & adobo (if not added to puree), chicken* and seasoning to slow-cooker and stir to combine. Cook for 3-4 hours on high heat or 6-8 hours on low heat.

*Option 1:
If adding raw chicken to crock pot- add entire packet of Ground 2 Table Spice Blend 2, omitting the extra cumin, oregano, and paprika from the slow cooker listed above.Once chicken is cooked through, remove and shred using two forks; add back to slow-cooker and stir to combine.

*Option 2: Grill chicken separately (my preference)
Heat oil in grill pan and season chicken with the packet of Ground 2 Table's Spice Blend 2, an all purpose spicy blend containing organic cayenne pepper, coriander, cumin, garlic and more. It's the perfect single-use packet of flavor to go along with my soup! Grill chicken on each side until fully cooked. Remove from pan and shred with two forks; add to soup and stir to combine.

Serve in bowls and garnish with tortilla strips, avocado, cilantro, whatever you like. Buen provecho!
