Denim Jacket: H&M (similar option) | White Crop Jeans: Habitual (similar) | Pink T-Shirt: Target | Sandals: Steve Madden | Tote: Nordstrom | Necklace: Wanderlust | Bracelet: Stella & Dot

With the long weekend and Memorial Day holiday I can't lie and say it was easy getting back into the swing of things this week. Plus, my weekend is packed! I have the Bloggy Boot Camp conference tomorrow (any other SoCal ladies attending?!) and then Ipsy's Generation Beauty event in downtown LA on Sunday, along with (hopefully) a late lunch date with a friend. Busy, busy!

We've been having some gloomy weather for the past week out here so it's nice to have the sun out and shining, it should start getting really warm really soon. It's not super hot yet so a light jacket, such as my favorite denim jacket from H&M, is just perfect. Oh, and since it's after Memorial Day, I'm okay to wear white, right? Does anyone really still follow these rules?? :P

How will you be spending this weekend?

Special thanks to my mom for stepping in and taking my outfit pics for me this week!

Five For Friday: What To Do Memorial Day Weekend

How ready are you for the three day weekend? I don’t have any big plans for Memorial Day but I am definitely looking forward to an extra day off. Plus, I’m trying to save so big adventures are out for me this month. If you’re like me with no plans (or no budget!) and not exactly sure how to spend the next three days, here’s a few suggestions that will keep you busy:

1. Host Your Own Wine/Beer Tasting
Have some friends come over for a good hang, but with one caveat—they must bring a bottle of wine (or a few bottles of craft beer) to share. Throw out some cheese and crackers and get your tasting on! For added fun, start a fun game of Cards Against Humanity… it’s always better when drinks are involved!

PS- Please practice safe drinking, if friends have too much, make it a sleepover 

2. Netflix Binge-Sesh
If you want to spend all weekend laying on the couch bingeing out on Netflix marathons, there will be absolutely zero judgement coming from this way. Get caught up on your favorite series, start ones you’ve been meaning to watch, or watch by movie themes each day: comedy, weirdest sci-fi, or random- just close your eyes and watch the movie you land on!

3. Get Outdoors
If spending the weekend on the couch doesn’t appeal to you, get yourself outdoors for some fresh air! Get together with some friends for a hike, find a local farmer’s market,  plan a picnic in the park, or head down to your nearest beach or lake for some R&R.

4. Clean Out Your Closet
This is one chore that I’m planning to tackle this weekend. I like to weed through all my clothes, accessories, bags, shoes and pull out what I haven’t worn in ages. I will usually donate my old stuff to Goodwill but if you have some  good stuff and want to make some extra cash, you can take it to a consignment shop, thredUP or post to Poshmark or eBay.

The really good thing about cleaning out your closet is that it makes room for new stuff and that’s good enough reason for me to take advantage of all the amazing Memorial Day sales going on this weekend ;)

5. Be A Tourist
Take a day trip to the nearest metro area to you and take a city tour to learn more about the area and the major tourist spots. Visit the museums and attractions that you never made time for before but have “always wanted to do” (bonus points for war memorials or Memorial Day events!) Or, you can even stay within the confines of your own city limits and discover some new places and hot spots you've never been. Don’t forget the fanny pack!

Wishing you all a very happy Memorial Day weekend!

Happy Friday! I'm heading to a big all-day concert tomorrow and can't wait to see a couple bands I have been wanting to see for years (Muse and Florence & the Machine) along with a few others with my sister, it should be a fun day! To get me in the weekend mood, I did a little "window" shopping at Nordstrom-- it's been rainy the last couple of days so I was channeling springtime and sunshine when putting this look together. I'm loving the soft lilac of the dress, the bright, punch berry of the blush, and have you heard about Lancome's newest cushion foundations? I have a hunch that cushion foundations are going to be BIG in the next year. I am saying no more :P

Are Your #BrowsOnFleek? 3 Tips for Great Brows

Brow Tips from A Good Hue

I don't think that my brows, by any means, are perfect but I don't think they're half bad either. Aside from the occasional threading and a pluck here or there, they don't require much maintenance. Here's my top 3 tips for great brows:

1. Don't Get Pluck Happy
I've known a few people (no names!) who over the years have gotten just way too friendly with the tweezers. Put them down. Step away.

Only use your tweezers if you're cleaning up your brows and plucking the strays. Full brows are in, so don't go too thin!

2. Easy on the Filler
If you do go too thin, you can always fill them in with brow pencil or powder. However, as with tweezing, don't go overboard. Case in point: A few years ago in a makeup class I was taking, one of the other students did my makeup and filled in my already-full brows. Holy brows! Not exactly the look I was after.

Use a shade that matches your hair color and use the pencil/powder/pen/gel (or, you can even use eye shadow in a matching shade!) to define your brows by filling in where needed and lining top and bottom. For me, I use a touch of powder to fill in the sparse area on the inner corners of my brows and to lengthen the outer end slightly. Then, take a spooly end (usually on brow pencils) or brow brush to comb your brows and brush out any hard lines, softening the definition to look more natural.

3. Let's Get High(light)
To really take your brows to the next level, add a highlight beneath the arch. The highlight will bring focus to the brows, giving them life and brightening the eyes, as well as to give them an instant lift. I will also blend a touch of highlighter above the tail end of my brow to perk up my brows and eyes even more.

My last bit of advice? Don't freak out if your brows don't match perfectly, everyone's face is different. So there you have it, 3 steps to #browsonfleek!

PS- Who came up with 'fleek' anyway? I feel like it's kind of like 'fetch'... or maybe I'm just getting old :/

Good HUES-Day: LA Vibes

Beauty and Style in Los Angeles

Living around Los Angeles my entire life I see SO many different styles, which is great! Pretty much anything goes in LA, but I think my personal favorite, especially on the weekend, is a laid back, no fuss, beachy type of look. Above are a few of the items I'm loving to get the look-- including a gorgeous bronzer/highlighter multi-tasker, bright lip shades, and beachy waves. It just screams 'summer!'

Breezy Spring Look with Lilly for Target

Shorts: Lilly Pulitzer for Target | Blouse: Candies | Sandals: Sam & Libby for Target | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff (similar) | Watch: Kate Spade New York | Bracelet: Stella & Dot | Necklace: Gorjana | Sunglasses: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohls

During the madness that was Lilly Pulitzer for Target, I managed to order the cutest pair of pom-pom shorts... girls shorts. I managed to get a few other items (the pineapple sandals-- SO cute, a romper, and votives) but these shorts are topping my list of favorites. I was scared they wouldn't fit, but they fit perfectly (still on the fence if that's kind of sad or kind of cool) but they are super comfy. Plus, how cute are the little pom-poms?!? Pure print heaven.

Makeup Monday: Spring Lipstick

Lip colors for spring 2015

I have a huge collection of lipsticks and glosses from over the years that I never wear. Once in awhile I'll wear a nude shade but I've mostly been wearing balm. I made it a goal to start wearing more color-- above are some shades I am currently loving for spring, even that punchy orchid shade!

Which lipsticks/glosses are you currently wearing for spring?

3 No-Fuss Hairstyles For The Girl On-The-Go

Hair tips from Scott Fontana

I have always gravitated towards hairstyles that are simple and low maintenance, especially when the weather starts heating up and standing under a hot blow dryer is just not very appealing. This week, Scott Fontana, celebrity hair stylist and owner of Cristophe Salon Newport Beach, has hooked up A Good Hue readers with a few pro tips on some of my go-to no-fuss hairstyles:

1. Simple Fishtail Braid
When hair time is limited, or you want a fab style that looks like it took time but really took no time at all, fishtail braids are the way to go and, as I've learned, a sure fire way to get hair compliments. “Fishtails appear complicated, but in a few easy steps you can achieve the look," says Scott.

"Comb through the hair to eliminate any tangles. Sweep the hair over to whichever side you chose. Secure the hair into a side pony with an elastic. Start by separating the hair into two sections. Take a piece of hair from the left side and bring it over to the right side and pull into place. Then take a piece from the right side and bring it over the left and pull into place. Repeat this process all the way down. Once you have the hair braided all the way down, slide the elastic down and twist one more time to secure. The Locked Up hairspray from the Scott Fontana Collection will keep the style looking great without falling,” says Scott. Tip: Lightly pull out on sections to loosen the braid and it give it a messy, modern look.

2. Messy Bun
This isn't your perfect, no-hair-out-of-place librarian bun the messy bun is meant to be just that... messy! According to Scott, to achieve a messy bun you will need bobby pins, a hair elastic and a teasing comb: "Start by spraying the hair with dry shampoo. The Fresh Do Dry Shampoo by the Scott Fontana Collection adds volume and is perfect for second day hair. Begin tying all of the hair with an elastic. You can wear it low or on the top of your head; it’s totally up to you! Separate the hair and tease to create lots of volume for the bun. Bobby pin sections of the hair to the back of the head. It doesn’t have to be perfect. The messier, the better! Secure the look with hairspray and you are ready to take on the day,” says Scott.

3. Beachy Waves
Since my hair is on the dry side, I try to avoid heat styling when I can and often let my hair air dry. Luckily my hair is fine, slightly wavy and frizz-free so it usually ends up not looking too bad (well, at least to me!). To get these beachy-esque waves, lightly spritz a sea salt spray in towel/ air-dried hair while it is still slightly damp. Use your fingers to scrunch up ends and use your fingers to twirl random strands to mix up the pieces. Give it a tousle and it's good to go!
