Happy Friday, readers! Valentine's Day is one of those feel-good holidays that's all about sharing the love... with sweets, treats and amazing (or amazingly cheesy!) gifts. Being a woman, I think it's basically ingrained in our DNA to love jewelry, I mean, how else do you explain the obsession with the bling? I  recently came across Don Roberto Jewelers and couldn't resist putting together a list of my top jewelry picks that would make perfect Valentine's Day gifts, to give and receive (hint, hint!).

January Fitness Style Favorites

With every new year comes new goals, many of which are fitness related. I've never been much of an athletic person-- in fact while most kids loved getting out of the classroom for P.E., I hated it, especially when we had to run. No thanks!

I'm still not a fan of running but I do try to keep in shape; I take a weekly pilates class, and sometimes yoga and various dance classes. This year, my goal is to try some new activities and so far I've been doing pretty good. I tried skiing for the first time (killer on the legs!) and last weekend I took a line dancing class-- no joke, it was pretty fun, and not as easy as it looks!

I don't know if this is a good or bad thing but I am totally one of those that finds it easier to get myself to exercise when I'm wearing something cute... anyone else?? I know I'm not the only one :P Here's a few of my top fitness style favorites this month-- I tend to go for more pastel, lighter shades but I love some fun patterns and looks mixed in.

Makeup Monday: Top Picks for Dry Winter Skin

A Good Hue's top picks to repair dry, winter skin
With my already dry skin, the winter months can be extra harsh so I have to take a few extra steps to keep my skin feel moisturized, supple, and fresh. Here's a few of my top picks to help combat dry, winter skin:

1. For about two years now, my go-to face moisturizer has been the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ and I don't plan on giving it up anytime soon. This moisturizer helps to hydrate my skin before applying makeup-- it doesn't look greasy, it's not too thick, it's just the most perfect moisturizer ever.

2. I started using the Physicians Formula Argan Wear Argan Oil about a year ago and haven't been able to stop. I typically apply it at night after I wash my face to allow it to work it's magic overnight. In the morning my skin is soft, smooth and feels ultra-hydrated. If you have severely dry skin, you can wear this under makeup as a primer, or use it anywhere-- hands, nails, hair, elbows, feet-- wherever you need some extra moisture.

3. Another moisturizing favorite with argan oil is the Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter, which is super creamy, moisturizing, and leaves my skin feeling soft without the greasiness.

4. Every few weeks I like to apply a hydrating mask and I've currently been trying out these cool lace face masks from Dermovia, including a hydrating rose water mask which helps to replenish moisture in the skin.

5. Don't forget about your lips! I have been all over this sugar lip scrub set from Sara Happ, which contains The Lip Scrub and The Lip Slip in a yummy vanilla bean flavor.

Blogger How-To Series: Easily Edit Blog Photos with Photoshop Actions

How-To Edit Photos Using Photoshop Actions

I've been wanting to add more how-to's to A Good Hue and thought a Blogger How-To series would be perfect. For my first post, I wanted to share how easy it is to edit photos using Actions on Photoshop. Even if you're not a blogger, these tips can help beef up your own photo editing skills!

Photoshop Actions are a series of steps that can be applied all at once to an image you are working on in just one click. They're super easy to use and make editing a breeze-- similar to filters, they can add different effects and colorings to your photos. For my blog photos, I usually use the same action so that all of my photos have a consistent look, but you can be creative and mix it up, or even layer actions for your own customized look. At the end of this post, I'll link to some of my favorite action packs, most of which are free! Keep reading for the how-to:

Recipe File: Spinach Salad with Creamy Citrus Dressing

Healthy Spinach Salad with Creamy Citrus Dressing

Confession time. I love spinach, but whenever I eat it (except for my smoothies) I always pull off the stems. Come to think of it, I don't eat broccoli stems either...how weird is that?

Stems or no stems this salad is REALLY good and is perfect as a quick lunch or dinner, especially if you're trying to get back on the health track. The creamy citrus honey dressing gives it a burst of tang and sweetness, helping to brighten the overall flavor, you get a savory punch with the onion and mushrooms while the egg adds some protein. If you're sick of the same ol' boring salads, you'll definitely want to try this one!

Healthy Spinach Salad with Creamy Citrus Dressing

Spinach Salad with Creamy Citrus Honey Dressing
Ingredients
Spinach
Red onion, sliced
Mushrooms, sliced
Olive Oil
Feta Cheese
Egg, hard-boiled and sliced

Dressing: (adapted from The Pioneer Woman)
1/4 c Orange Juice (or 1 medium-sized orange)
1 tsp Honey
1 Clove Garlic, chopped finely or grated
2 tbsp. Olive Oil
Salt & Pepper, to taste
1 tbsp. Plain Greek Yogurt

Heat olive oil in pan over medium heat and add onions. Cook for several minutes and then add the sliced mushrooms and continue to sautée. Remove from heat and set aside.

Meanwhile, combine the orange juice, honey, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper in a mason jar and shake to mix. Add in the Greek yogurt and continue to shake until thoroughly mixed; taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Place spinach in a bowl and top with a few drizzles of dressing, the onions and mushrooms, feta cheese and sliced egg. Dig in!

A Winter's Blush + Good HUES-Day LINKUP

Welcome to my first outfit post of 2016,  I'm excited to announce my new weekly Good HUES-Day linkup! Scroll below to linkup, be sure to check out some of the other blogs that have linked up as well.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and fun New Year festivities. For my first style post of the year, I wanted to share a few goodies I received from Santa this year- including this patterned black and white sweater from Target, a new chambray button-down (both from my mom!) and this super pretty rosy pink purse from Kate Spade from Steve. It was a good Christmas indeed!

Funny story about the bag-- it wasn't much of a surprise. I was browsing around online one night and saw a tweet that this bag was available at a special price for that night only. I got super excited and told Steve-- I had been wanting a blush bag like this and he asked if I wanted it for Christmas-- um, yes! Since the sale was ending soon, he gave me his card and I placed the order... so I basically ordered my own Christmas present, at least he didn't make me wrap it too:P

2016 Resolutions: Goal Setting

Happy 2016! I spent the holiday weekend re-organizing our apartment and decluttering. I cleaned out bags of stuff to donate-- it feels good to get rid of stuff I've been meaning to clean out. With that out of the way, I have a few more things I want to accomplish this year both for this blog and in my personal life.

BLOG

I'm always working to make this blog better- post quality, new content, and better photography and images. When I look back on old posts, I can definitely see an improvement and it makes me proud, but there's still so much I can be doing better. There always will be, that's just how I am.

I have also been experimenting with video and would like to keep this up. While I have no problem taking photos, I get so nervous in front of video cameras! If I'm not talking it's fine, but I have an aversion to speaking on camera that I'm trying to overcome :P

Any blog post or video suggestions are more than welcome, please share your ideas below in the comments!

PERSONAL

Travel more... and not just for work but for pleasure. I have quite a few places on my "list" and some aren't even that far away (um, Grand Canyon! Practically in my backyard). I need to try to get Steve on a plane, can you believe he's never been??

Move to a bigger place- I feel we've outgrown our current apartment and we'd like to find a bigger place, preferably even a house to rent. Luckily we're in suburbia so rent isn't too crazy high, hopefully something great will come along... and soon!

Learn a new skill. I've always yearned for knowledge and am constantly learning, but I'd like to put my mind to one specific thing-- such as learning a new language (French, maybe?) or take a photography class to really learn how to use my camera and develop my photography skills. I need to toy around with some ideas-- I'll happily take your suggestions!

What are your 2016 resolutions/goals?

PS- Be sure to stop by tomorrow for my new Good HUES-Day weekly linkup!

New Year's Beauty

Happy New Year! I hope you all had fun New Year's Eve ringing in 2016. Here's a quick eye look to keep you sparkling all year long:

1. Apply the Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Kohl Kajal + Liquid Liner Trio in Natural (kajal end) on lid, blending up into crease. I love using the kajals as a base, and sometimes just alone on the lid! Line the lower lash line with this same liner.

2. Next, apply the dark shade (Teak) from the Amy Nadine Renewing Nude Eye Shadow Palette in your crease, then swipe a dab of the Copper shade to the middle of your lids to add dimension. Apply the lightest shade (Mineral) to highlight your brow bone and inner corners of eyes.

3. Using the Kohl Kajal + Liquid Liner in Black, line your top lash line, flicking the ends up to create a small, but perfect cat eye.

4. Curl lashes and add some major volume by applying a couple coats of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara.

Wishing you all an amazing 2016!
