Detox Drink: Spicy Pomegranate Lemonade with Chia

Detox Drink: Spicy Pomegranate Lemonade with Chia

Happy Friday all! The week after a short holiday week (does that make sense??) always seems to be looooong and super busy, but being busy isn't a bad thing. Although if you're like me when it gets super busy, you can sometimes forget about your health and those good-intentioned resolutions and goals you made at the beginning of the year. It can be so easy to fuel up on snacks, soft drinks, and not-so-good-for-you treats, especially when you only have time to grab and go.

This week I wanted to share a drink that I've been hooked on, not only is it refreshing, but it's a great detox as well! This detox drink is loaded with lemon, pom juice, chia and a few surprise ingredients that make it just a tad different than your good ol' fashioned glass of lemonade-- cayenne pepper and turmeric. We all know lemon and chia both have some amazing benefits but have you ever looked into the health benefits of turmeric? It has natural anti-inflammatory that can be used to help with a myriad of health issues, including digestion and even preventing cancer. I try to sneak it in my food where I can. In theory, it doesn't sound like it would be good with lemon and pom juice, but I really can't taste it much in this drink. Cayenne pepper is another spice that has some really good health benefits-- anti-fungal, digestive aid, even migraine prevention-- plus it adds a bit of a kick which works well with the tartness of this drink.

I do like mine on the tart side so a little squeeze of honey is all I need for some extra sweetness, but you can always add a little more to suit your tastes. You can easily make this with store-bought pom juice (I purchase the bigger sized bottles from the club stores- they are a much better buy!), or juice your own if you prefer. Bottoms up!

Spicy Pom Lemonade with Chia
1 Lemon, large (or 2 small)
1 c Water
1 c Pomegranate Juice
~1/8 tsp Cayenne Pepper
~1/4 tsp ground Turmeric
2 tbsp Chia Seeds
Honey, to taste

Squeeze lemon(s) into a mason jar, add the water, pom juice, cayenne pepper (add more if you like it spicy!), turmeric, chia seeds and a squeeze of honey to sweeten if you prefer. Refrigerate overnight or at least several hours to allow the chia seeds to soften. Pour in a glass with ice and enjoy :)

A Peek at Korean Beauty from TonyMoly

In the past couple of years, the Korean beauty industry has blown up.  Known for innovative cosmetics and skin care with unique ingredients, cute packaging and new technologies, Korean beauty has become immensely popular. BB Creams, first made popular in Korea, are now a staple here in American markets, and cushion compact technology has started to catch on as well.

While browsing online one day, I say that Ulta Beauty now carries TonyMoly, a popular Korean brand. I couldn't resist picking up a few items, click 'Read More' to find out what I thought...

Good HUES-Day: Getting in Shape On a Budget + Linkup

Forever21 Activewear Style

Growing up I was never into sports or pretty much anything athletic. Once I hit middle school, PE was pretty much torture. I absolutely hated running, participating in sports, pretty much anything active-related. In high school though I opted to take aerobics and actually enjoyed it. I found that it helped with toning and was a good cardio exercise... and the best part? No running!

Now I take a weekly pilates class and often will hit a yoga class where I can. Staying in shape and getting some form of exercise in is important, especially since I'm not naturally an active person. I am naturally a budget-conscientious person and I just can't see spending hundreds on workout clothes and luckily I don't have to-- Forever 21 now carries a variety of activewear, most items under $20!

Pantone Color of the Year Top Picks

Pantone Color of the Year Rose Quartz & Serenity Top Picks from A Good Hue
1. Steve Madden 'Eleanorr' Ballet Flat in Rose Suede | 2. Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Lipstick | 3. Tory Burch Small Robinson Zip Tote | 4. Sonix 'Rosé All Day' iPhone Case | 5. Kate Spade New York 'Rumsey' Watch | 6. Essie Nail Polish in Sugar Daddy and Lapis of Luxury

Each year, as part of the trend forecasting process, Pantone declares a Color of the Year, which is then used to help guide designs and consumer products. For 2016, Rose Quartz, a soft rosy warm blush tone and Serenity, a cool tranquil airy blue, were selected as the Color(s) of the Year-- yes, two shades this year! According to Pantone, these colors offer a balance along with a soothing sense of order and peace. As a fan of pastels, especially soft blush shades, I am beyond happy (nerd much?) that these gorgeous shades are the colors of the year. Points for Pantone!

Above are a few of my favorite Rose Quartz and Serenity picks-- how adorable are the lace up flats? This pretty blush shade totally reminds me of ballet slippers, and the watch is just too cool for school. Love!

What do you think of this year's color(s) of the year?

Good HUES-Day Linkup: Chambray Two Ways

I hope everyone had a good Valentine's Day/President's Day weekend! I had an extra day off, which is always awesome, however I pretty much spent the entire weekend at home. Steve and I have both had this funky cold/intense allergy thing going on for the past week. Our Valentine's Day consisted of us pretty much lounging on the couch all day with stuffed up noses-- that's just all kinds of romantic, isn't it? We did order a heart-shaped pizza so there's that. Isn't that the absolute worst though? You get a three-day weekend and end up spending it sick? Ugh!

Although it was really REALLY hot this weekend- like, sit-by-the-pool-in-a-bikini/ short-shorts weather hot. So maybe it was a good thing that I was inside? Since it's warmed up, I've been able to get out of the sweaters and boots. A couple weeks ago I shared some of my favorite outfits featuring chambray and I wanted to share two more. Keep reading for more, including details for both outfits, plus this week's #GoodHUESDay linkup>>

Pore Deep Cleansing Regimen with Bioré

Pore cleansing regimen with Bioré Baking Soda Pore Cleanser and Scrub

Taking care of my skin has always been a priority for me since I was a teen, yet having combination skin is usually a headache when it comes to skin care. Products formulated for oily skin can be too drying, and products for dry skin can cause oiliness on my T-zone, causing my pores to become larger and more apparent. I recently picked up a new line from Bioré that is specially formulated for combination skin and features a new secret weapon for cleaning pores-- baking soda. Both the Bioré  Baking Soda Pore Cleanser and Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub are a skin care routine must for anyone with combination skin.

Pore cleansing regimen with Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub

I have never used cleansers or scubs with baking soda before and was intrigued to see how it would work for me and my pores. Here's how I give my pores a deep clean with my nightime face cleansing ritual using these products:

Pore cleansing regimen with Bioré Baking Soda Pore Cleanser

After removing my eye makeup with a creamy makeup remove, I start with the Bioré  Baking Soda Pore Cleanser, working the cleanser into a lather and gently massaging it on my face in circular motions to remove makeup, excess dirt and oil, rinsing with warm water. With a pH balanced formula and soft cleansing beads that help to exfoliate dry skin, this cleanser is great to use daily to deep clean pores.

Next, I apply the Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub, which is different than any other scrub I have ever used and is actually pretty cool!  As it is a powder-to-foam formula that starts to foam as you add water. It's almost like a science experiment when watching it start to foam! Who thought face washing could actually be so fun?

Pore cleansing regimen with Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub

To use, I shake a small amount out into my palm and add a little water to activate the scrub. You can customize how much exfoliation depending on how much water you add-- more water will make it softer.and dissolve quicker I then apply it to my face, again massaging in into my skin in a circular motion, especially where my skin is dryest to help remove dead, dry skin, and then rinsing thoroughly with warm water.

Finally, I pat my face dry with a towel and then apply moisturizer or argan oil to keep my skin hydrated and healthy through the night. There's nothing better than going to bed with a fresh and clean moisturized face!

After using the cleanser and scrub, my skin, and especially my pores, immediately feels clean and super smooth! After a few days of use, I have noticed my skin looks and feels more balanced overall.

You can find both Bioré products at your local Target store in the facial care aisle-- I found them both easily on a shelf at the end of the aisle. The baking soda line is good for those with combination skin, however if you have oily skin, be sure to check out Bioré's line of charcoal products.

Sweets & Treats: Chocolate Decadence

Steve and I aren't big on Valentine's Day, the past few years we've been out camping during this time but this week we haven't been feeling too great so we decided to stay home this weekend. I'm planning to make a yummy dinner for us, including a special, chocolatey dessert. To me, Valentine's Day is just an excuse to load up on sweets... especially chocolate... and Steve is a chocoholic so it works out perfectly! Today I wanted to share a few of my favorite sweet recipes with you featuring this ultimate decadent ingredient, hopefully you'll make it to the end of this post before going into a choco-coma. The hard part will be figuring out which one to make!

February Favorites: Nails + OPI Giveaway [CLOSED]

Hey beauties! Today I wanted to chat about nail colors-- I'm in desperate need of a manicure and have debating which color to go with. I typically lean towards pinks and sometimes reds, especially deep wine red shades. Being the month of love, I always find that these shades are perfect during the month of February. Anyone else agree?

Ever since I picked it up last year, I keep reaching for my bottle of Essie Ballet Slippers. It's such a pretty, pale barely-there pink. To jazz it up, I'll swipe a coat of a rose gold glitter, such as Butter London Rosie Lee Nail Lacquer in  to an accent nail. On my toes I like to go darker, with either OPI Classic Nail Lacquer in Malaga Wine, Zoya Nail Polish in Lo, or a bright cherry red with Butter London Macbeth Nail Lacquer. What's your favorite nail shade for February?

To show some love for you, my readers, I'm giving away an OPI Cult Favorites Mini Nail set in some amazingly gorgeous shades. Keep reading for details on how to enter:

#PapyrusMoment: Valentine's Day Cards from Papyrus

Remember back in elementary school how choosing the right Valentine's Day cards for the kids in your class was SUCH a big deal? The mean girl you didn't like would get one of the boring cards and just maybe her candy would 'accidentally' fall off (oopsies!), and you had to make sure not to give just any boy the special card (you wouldn't want the wrong one to get the wrong idea, ew!). Oh the anxiety that would ensue!  That special card took extra special attention-- the name was meticulously printed, it was placed in the envelope oh so carefully, even right down to the extra little drawn on hearts.

One year, during our second grade Valentine's Day festivities I had given a boy a special card. It was a cute Disney Aladdin card featuring Abu the monkey giving a dreamy stare saying "I'm bananas about you... Be mine". It was THE perfect card for my perfect little crush. One of my girl friends must have thought the same... she gave him the same exact card!

These days my card anxiety is at a minimum- I know I can always find the perfect Valentine's Day card for my main squeeze from PAPYRUS. From sweet and romantic, to funny and friendly, PAPYRUS has a mix of fun, sexy and chic cards, wrapping, even gift ideas. I especially like the handmade touches, such as little bows, a pop of glitter or something else unexpected. They take greeting cards to a special level making it easy for me to share with my special someone and create my own #PAPYRUSMoment.

Do you have a special Valentine's Day memory? Share your #PAPYRUSMoment below!

Valentine's Day Beauty Musts

Valentine's Day Beauty Musts
Even though Steve and I don't do much for Valentine's Day, it's still a favorite holiday. Maybe because I have an excuse to decorate with cute, girly pink decor. Or maybe because of the yummy chocolates and other treats that are always around. Or, maybe it's the cute lil beauty sets, romantic fragrance scents, or the excuse to rock pinks and reds that I love.

Here's a few gift ideas of the beauty lover on your V-day List... or if you're in search of some Valentine's Day beauty for yourself:

1. Keep lips soft and kissable with the Fresh Nude Lip Lovers Mini Kissing Trio. The Fresh Sugar lip treatments always leave lips smooth and moisturized.

2. This limited edition HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Edit includes six gorgeous highlighters, blushes and bronzers to brighten your complexion and perfectly reflect light. The perfect gift for the highlighter obsessed!

3. When is glitter not a good idea? I love the pretty pinks & glitter in the Ciaté 'Pink' Paint Pot Duo to Go. Pretty, pretty!

4. With natural ingredients such as coffee, sugar, moisturizing oils, and cardamom, the luxurious  SVELTA Luxe Coffee & Raw Sugar Body Scrub leaves skin feeling silky smooth and hydrated. Such a treat for skin!

5. One of my favorite scents to wear this season is Chloe Love Story EDP, which also makes a fantastic gift. You can never go wrong with a fragrance... well, unless it stinks, which this one definitely does not. Win!

6. How adorable is this Charlotte Tilbury Makeup Bag splattered with lips?

7. If a pair of Red Sole Loubs isn't within your budget,  you can still rock a sexy red with Christian Louboutin Silky Satin Lip Colour. Bonus, these also include oils & butters to enhance moisturization and protect against dryness.

8. Give the chocolate lover on your list the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Palette. This chocolate-scented (oh yes, they did!) palette contains 16 matte and shimmer shades and is  totally not the cliche box of chocolates.

What products are topping your current beauty must list?
