Four Favorites: July Beauty Favorites

I opened my inbox this morning to discover an email from Byrdie, a new beauty focused website launched by the fashion-forward minds of Who, What, Wear. With a clean design, fresh editorial photography and interesting topics (celebrity beauty routines, product picks, tips for makeup, hair, and nails), I can easily see Byrdie becoming my new beauty go-to spot.

Also rounding out my list of beauty favs this month are LaVanila Laboratories' Vanilla Coconut Candle-- I LOVE coconut scent during the summer-- in the air, in my sunscreen, in my perfume--- everywhere! I have also been loving Organix's Moroccan Sea Salt Spray, which I am using today-- I like!  I spray it into my damp hair, crunch up my hair a bit and let air dr, resulting in casual, beachy waves. My hair is slightly wavy, but mainly straight, and I love how this spray helps to define those waves-- the only thing to make it better would be an added coconut scent :P

Has anyone tried the Smashbox Fade In eyeshadow palette from the new Fade to Black fall collection? I've been using neutrals daily and have always been a fan of Smashbox's products, especially their eyeshadows. I have a feeling this one is going to make it home with me next time I'm out makeup shopping.

What are some of your beauty favs from the past month?

Four Favorites: Accessories

This week I'm sharing my favorite accessories, pieces that can be paired with a variety of outfits and styles. Last weekend I purchased the aviators from Lauren Conrad's Kohl's line-- she has some really cute items and Kohl's has amazing sales-- these were $15.99 + I had a $5 off coupon and a 30% off coupon-- SCORE! Since receiving it several weeks ago, I have been wearing the mark. watch almost everyday-- I love the contrasting black and gold links, and the face style is very similar to the more expensive options of Michael Kors.... would you believe I paid under $30 for it?

I have featured the Panama hat before in another favorites post and I'm also always seeing it on one of my favorite blogs, Stephanie Sterjovski-- I'm thinking it's about time I actually buy it-- the hat is just so cute, ! I'm also loving this simple, basic bar bracelet from Kate Spade Saturday... another must-have for my jewelry box!

Random Monday Things

I was super bad at updating the blog last week so I'm attempting to get caught up this week.... we'll see how that goes!

Here's a little bit of randomness from the past week:

1. Last Sunday, I made a delicious bolognese served over rotini pasta with a garlic crostini. I used Cupcake Vineyard's Shiraz in the sauce, which was cooked on the stone for several hours.
The recipe I used can be found here

Bolognese sauce

2. Speaking of wine, last weekend my parents and I stopped by Total Wine, a wine and beer warehouse, similar to BevMo but with a CRAZY amount of wine. IN. SANE.

They also offer 10 cent tastings-- 10 cents for 6 tastings-- in which I tried various French wines. I'll admit, I'm a California wine snob, but one or two of the ones I tried we're pretty good. They offer a themed tasting each Saturday.

3. Did a little shopping at Kohl's on Saturday and picked up a few things from the LC Lauren Conrad collection. I was originally after this grey chevron maxi dress, however they didn't have any in stock. Boo! I settled for this pointelle sweater (in natural-- very Free People looking), a black and grey chevron striped maxi skirt, and these gold aviator sunglasses-- I love the bright yellow ends!

4. Kate Spade Saturday is still up on Fab.com.-- get your shop on!

5. Yesterday we went to the OC Fair. I'm not typically a fair food connoisseur, but I told my sister I made it a goal to try something I normally wouldn't... and that something was deep fried cookie dough. It was B O M B. Seriously, a doughnut filled with oooey gooey chocolate chip cookie dough drizzled with chocolate sauce. Heaven in my mouth.

Deep Fried Cookie Dough

My sister tried the deep fried Snickers, which was good, just not as good as the cookie dough. Next time, I'll have to try the deep fried bacon-wrapped pickles :P

Do you have any fair food favorites?

Weekend Wear: Summer Grey + Cognac

chevron maxi dress

Just because it's summer doesn't mean you must stick to brights, florals, or basic stripes. One of my favorite neutral combinations is light grey and cognac, an easy way to wear neutrals during the hot summer months. The grey stays muted in this cute chevron print maxi and the white jacket is great for chillier days (or if you're heading somewhere with extreme air conditioning!), and I love the classy band of gold on these flat sandals. Add a pop of color to the neutrals with a fun, bright colored bracelet, necklace, or even a thin belt.

Enjoy the rest of your Friday!

beach hat giveaway A Good Hue

Super excited to offer my first blog giveaway for a cute floppy beach hat from mark. Wide-brimmed hats are one of my musts for summer-- especially for the weekends when I'm laying out at the beach, sitting by the pool, or relaxing at the lake.

Four Favorites: Summer Entertaining

A light, cold sangria is THE perfect drink during the summer, especially when brunching with friends, and I love the idea of using prosecco instead of wine-- sort of a twist on the traditional mimosa.
Pear crostinis would be a fabulous finger snack--  I have a chunk of brie begging to be used in this recipe. And what better to serve it all on than a chic all-white tray? Add in some cute summery stirrers and you have summer brunch perfection.

What is your idea of the perfect summer brunch?

Tanked: 5 Under $50

tanks under $50
I'll be honest-- I'm not much of a fan of guys wearing tank tops. I guess if they're tan and have decent arms/chests I'm cool with that, but if those don't apply to you, guys, please don't wear tanks. I remember as a kid my parents taking my sister and I on a chartered bus ride to the Hollywood Bowl for the first time. I don't remember much else about that trip or who we saw, but the whole way I sat eye level to a man's nipple peeking out through his tank. Must have left a scar.

However, these days I love wearing tanks myself! Solids, graphic prints, textured-- I love them! They're great for throwing over a swimsuit, or a cute bralette, or, throw a light jacket or chambray shirt over them; pair with maxi skirts, shorts, short skirts, pants, whatever! Here are a few that I've been loving:

Have  you come across any cute tanks lately?

Happy Monday! Weekend Recap & DSLR Camera Questions

Happy Monday... or is it? It's always tough coming back to work from a 4-day vacation, or rather a staycation as we didn't do too much this weekend. A few days of sleeping in, relaxing, and not doing a whole lot of anything was very much needed.

In other news, I've been thinking of purchasing a DSLR-- I have been wanting to take a photography class for several years now, but between work and traffic, I don't have much time. Why wait? I can practice and teach myself a few things. I'm just not sure which camera to start with; I've been thinking about going for the Canon Rebel T3, as from reviews it sounds like a good starter camera. Is Canon T3i Rebel better?

Any insight or recommendations? What about lenses? This girl is clueless!

Fourth of July was lowkey-- spent the day at my parents' BBQing, hanging out, and having fun with fireworks. I made delicious, homemade baked beans that I linked to last week-- SO good! Bella thought our sparklers were toys so we had to play keep away from her, crazy dog!

We did end up (finally!) going to the beach-- it was a perfect day! On Sunday, Steve wanted to try fishing at a nearby lake so I decided to join him and his friend. We arrived late in the afternoon and the sun starting to set over the water was so gorgeous!

Oh, and that cute, floppy beach hat I'm wearing above? I'll be giving it away soon-- stay on the look out for an upcoming giveaway!

Four Favorites: Happy 4th of July!

4th of July Outfit

The 4th of July is always a fun holiday-- good food, hanging out with friends, watching some fireworks, and of course, no work! My favorite aspect of the holiday is being able to show some patriotic pride, dressing up in red, white, and blue. A couple of weeks ago I purchased this cute flag tank-- perfect for tomorrow's festivities! Here's a few other patriotic faves:

Link Love: BBQ Recipe Favorites

Ah! I can't believe it's already July and that this week is Independence Day! For the fourth we are planning a little BBQ-- how can you not BBQ on this holiday? Below are a few BBQ recipes I came across that are perfect for the Fourth of July. Happy eats!

Crock Pot BBQ Pulled Pork: I am always pinning recipes from Six Sisters's Stuff, especially their crock pot recipes. I have tried a few and they did not disappoint. I've been dying to try their crock pot BBQ pulled pork-- yum!

Potato Salad: A BBQ isn't a BBQ without the sides. Light on the mayo, punched up with lemon-- this is a potato salad recipe I can get down with.

Baked Beans: I haven't met anyone who doesn't like baked beans... I don't think I could be friends with someone who didn't love baked beans (kidding! Well, kind of). Ree Drummond, the Pioneer Woman made these beans on a recent episode for a 4th of July party-- they looked so good and will definitely be a recipe I will be recreating.

Sweet Potato Burgers: For those looking to keep their day meat-free, these maple chipotle sweet potato burgers are a mix of spicy and sweet-- topped with fresh lettuce and ripe avocado and I will happily give up a regular ol' cheeseburger for one of these.

Lemonade: An icy glass of lemonade is a summer staple and these unique flavor infused lemonades will definitely take your BBQ or pool party to the next level. Ginger, watermelon mint, blueberry lavender... how can I choose?!?

What will your Fourth of July menu consist of?
