December Beauty Favorites

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black, Colourpop Lippie Stix, Physiicans Formula Shimmer Strips Palette, Pixi Rose Oil

It's been a couple months since I last rounded up some of my beauty favorites so I wanted to share a few that I've been using... a lot. It's funny, I feel like I have SO many products, but I always tend to keep using the same ones all the time. Does this happen to anyone else, too?  Here's what I've been loving this month:

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black is a deeper, warmer scent than the white version and seems more fitting for winter months. Notes include sandalwood, vanilla, and violet, a mix that has a slight masculine appeal to it. Since the scent is a bit heavier, I tend to wear it when I go out at night. The one I have is in a smaller travel size, which I prefer because it let's me try out a fragrance before committing to a full size-- rollerballs are also great!

My skin has been super dry this past week so I've been applying oil at night. One that I've been using is the Pixi Rose Oil Blend, which has a mix of almond, jojoba, rose hip, pomegranate seed and rose geranium oils.  It is on the pricey end, which oils typically are, but well worth every penny. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated and smooth!

If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you know that I love a good highlight and right now my go-to has been Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips All-in-1 Nude Palette. This palette includes 12 soft shimmery shades that can be swirled together, used individually or pretty much used in whatever combo you'd like-- I usually take a fan brush and run it across the upper half. The result is an absolute perfect highlight that's soft, glowy and just all out gorgeous. I use this on my cheeks, to highlight brow bone, inner eyes, and even cupid's bow above my lip. You can even use the shades as eyeshadows! If you love a good highlight, I highly recommend trying this one out.

Early this year I tried Colourpop for the first time and since then I've been hooked. Lately I've been loving their Lippie Stix in LBB, a pretty deep wine shade, like a plum-red and is so stunning for the holidays. Did you see that Colourpop launched a collection with Revolve?! You can grab the limited edition Colourpop x Revolve Lip Kit with 6 Lippie Stix for just $30!

Good HUES-Day: Winter White in Toronto + LINKUP

During my busy travel week earlier this month, I went to Toronto for a couple days for a work event and was pretty stoked about this trip. I was excited because A) I built in some extra time to explore Toronto a little and B) I finally had the chance to wear this chic white dress I bought at Forever 21 last year. Yes, it took me a year (maybe even longer?!?) to wear this dress but it was the perfect occasion. I think white looks so chic during December/January and added a stunning statement necklace for that perfect touch of bling.

Holiday Gift Guide: For the Guys

Holiday and Christmas Gifts for Him

TBH I've been doing okay on my Christmas shopping this year. Not great, not even good. Just "okay". I'm somewhat at a loss as to what to get the guys in my life-- my boyfriend, dad, brother-in-law, etc. I'm hoping that by putting this post together I'll find some inspiration, I mean, if I were a guy I would like any of these gifts! I can always go with fishing gear, some cool tech accessories, comfy slippers, or even men's grooming sets-- there's so many possibilities! Here's a few gift ideas for men that I think would be fantastic:

1. I was talking to a co-worker about the Amazon Echo Dot last week-- they sound so neat! This is definitely topping my list. You can ask it to play music, get Uber, shop, and even control your home devices. Tres cool.

2. How awesome is this Marshall 'Kilburn' Bluetooth Speaker? If the guy you're buying for is into music or has ever in a band, he will definitely appreciate this speaker that looks like a Marshall amp.  Trust me on this one.

3. If all else fails, I always know that flannel sleep pants / PJs are always a welcomed gift, especially with the weather getting cooler. Last year I bought my boyfriend a fun pair of fishing PJ pants-- you can never go wrong with a simple plaid though!

4. That special man in your life can get the perfect shave with The Art of Shaving Starter Kit. The set is great for those with sensitive skin, using aromatherapy-based products including pre-shave oil, shaving cream, after-shave balm, and shaving brush.

5. Motivate him to keep up with his fitness with the Fitbit 'Blaze' Smart Fitness Watch. Not only can he keep track of his steps and sleep time, he can receive texts, caller ID and even switch up his music using this smart watch.

6. Let him play bartender with a Moscow Mule gift set from Thoughtfully.co. This set includes all the essentials-- two copper mugs, a glass shaker, gourmet ginger beer, mule mix and even ginger beer.

Tell me, what are some great gift ideas for the men in your life?

Recipe File: Autumn Pumpkin-Squash Soup

Panera Copycat Autumn Pumpkin-Squash Soup

When it comes to soups, I was always a traditionalist with chicken noodle being my jam with the occassional minestrone, brocolli cheddar or French onion thrown in. When Panera Bread came out with their Autumn Squash Soup, however, I was immediately hooked. It's creamy, savory, sweet, and is basically a bowl of fall vibes. Being my go-to during the cooler months, I just HAD to figure out how to re-create it and what beter timing to share than on the eve of Thanksgiving?

If you're on first course duty, I recommend starting the meal off with this creamy, delicious soup. This recipe is a close copycat to Panera's with a few extra veggies thrown in (I sneak them in where I can!) It's pretty easy to make and you can whip up a huge pot of it for all your guests. You can even freeze leftovers for the next cozy soup day. And yes, I even included the pepitas. Here's the recipe>>

Autumn Pumpkin-Squash Soup adapted from The Cafe Sucre Farine
Ingredients
1 Butternut Squash, roasted (see roasting steps below)
1 Sugar Pumpkin, roasted (these are not the pumpkins you use to carve, these are smaller ones used for pies. Likewise, you can use 1 can of pumpkin)
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 Onion, diced
3-4 Carrots, diced
1 Shallot, diced
2 Celery Stalks, diced
1 Zuchinni, diced
2 Garlic Cloves, minced
1 tsp Curry Powder
½ tsp Cinnamon
8 C Vegetable Broth
1 C Apple Juice
½ C Greek Yogurt (plain)
1 tsp Honey
Salt & Ground Pepper, to taste

Seasoned Pepitas:
1 tsp Butter
½ cup Pepitas (pumpkin seeds)
¼ tsp Paprika
½ tsp Curry Powder
¼ tsp Salt

To roast, preheat oven to 400˚F. Cut the squash and pumpkin in half and scoop out all the seeds and stringy flesh. Sprinkle olive oil over the pieces and place cut side down on a lined sheet pan and roast for approximately 30-40 minutes. Once tender, remove from the oven and set aside to cool. Once cool to touch, scoop out roasted flesh from the skin and set aside.

Heat large saucepan or Dutch ove on stove over medium heat and drizzle with olive oil. Once heated, add diced onions, carrots, and celery sauté for  about 5 minutes or until slightly translucent and soft. Add shallots and zuchinni and cook for additional 3 minutes or until soft. Add minced garlic, curry powder and cinnamon, cooking for another minute.

Next, add broth, apple juice and about 2 tsp. salt and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 20 minutes, then add roasted squash and pumpkin, then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes.

While soup is simmering, prepare the pepitas by melting butter in a small pan over medium heat, being careful not to burn (not that I did that or anything...). Add the pumpkin seeds and stir to coat. Next, sprinkle the seeds with the paprika, curry powder and salt and continue cooking for 2-3 minutes. The seeds will start turning a golden color once done. Remove from heat and set aside, tasting and adding more salt if needed.

Remove pan from the heat and using an immersion blender, puree until very smooth. If you don't have an immersion blender, add to a blender and blend in batches. Remember, hot liquids expand when they blend so only fill blender about half-ways full. Once blended, return to pan if using blender, stir in the Greek yogurt, honey, pepper and salt to taste. Taste test to make sure seasoning is good and adjust with salt and more honey if needed.

Serve hot with pepitas sprinkled on top.

Good HUES-Day: Dark Florals + Under $50 with Stella & Dot

H&M Dark Floral Blouse
Blouse: H&M | Grey Skinny Jeans (similar) | Lace-up Flats: Target | Bag: Kate Spade New York | Bracelets: Stella & Dot

I am finally back with an outfit post and linkup again, this last month has been insanely busy and it gets dark so early so I don't have time to shoot after work. Speaking of getting dark, is anyone else ready to go to bed at like, 6pm? It's like pitch black already and it's definitely been taking some time to get used to the change.

I recently found this pretty dark green floral blouse for just $10 at H&M- darker florals are one of my favorite prints to wear in the fall and winter months. Keep reading to see more of this look plus a special invitation below>>

Get The Look: Glowing Skin with Pixi Beauty

While I do live in SoCal where the sun is shinning 99% of the time, I do spend my days inside in an office. Since I'm not outside much, my skin can start looking dull and lose it's glow rather quickly. I recently had the chance to try some skincare and makeup products from Pixi by Petra to keep my skin glowing all year round.

Fall Style Essentials + Breast Cancer Awareness

This post is created in partnership with POPSUGAR Inc. and CFDA Foundation in support of the CFDA’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative.
Rebecca Minkoff Crossbody Bag | Diane von Furstenberg Coat (on sale!)  Elizabeth and James 'Nirvana White' Eau de Parfum  | Kendra Scott Y-Necklace | Kate Spade New York Scalloped Watch | Sam Edelman Slouch Boots | AG Ankle Super Skinny Jeans (on sale!) |  Tory Burch Sunglasses

Today I'm highlighting a few of my top fall style picks from CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) members, such as Rebecca Minkoff, DVF, Tory Burch  and more. For fall, I've been eyeballing slouch boots, ankle skinny jeans are always a must (they look great with booties!) and a coat is a must-have for when I visit colder areas-- I'm loving thisa soft camel shade for fall. Tell me, what are some of your fall must-haves?

This week from 10/17 - 10/23, I will be donating 10% of net sales (excluding taxes and shipping) initiated through the links in this post to CFDA Foundation.* Proceeds from CFDA Fashion Targets Breast Cancer  helps to provide access to reliable health information and quality health care to all women concerned about and/or diagnosed with breast cancer.  I urge you to make a concerted effort to give back and shop with this cause in mind.

According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 women (12%)  in the US will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime, and in 2016 more than 40,000 women are estimated to die from from breast cancer. That's an extremely scary thought and chances are someone close to you has been diagnosed, or you know of someone who has had to fight. Although no one close to me has had to battle breast cancer...yet, they and even myself are at risk and it's important to have access to correct and reliable information to help prevent breast cancer, for early detection and most importantly, access to health care in order to fight, literally for life.

SHOP THE POST:

Recipe File: Buffalo Chicken Salad Lettuce Wraps

Buffalo Chicken Salad Lettuce Wraps Recipe

TBH I'm really not much of a sports fan, but you know what I can get on board with? Game day munchies, especially if hot wings (boneless please, I can't do the whole bone-in thing!) are involved. I recently made these Buffalo Chicken Salad Lettuce Wraps for a sports-themed potluck at work and they were a huge hit! The soft Bibb lettuce provides the perfect vessel for the yummy buffalo chicken salad, which combines the best of hot wings: buffalo sauce, celery, and bleu cheese. You won't even miss regular ol' hot wings!

Not only are these yummy... and healthy-ish... to munch on, they can work as a meal.  Keep reading for this easy-peasy recipe:

September Beauty Favorites

September Beauty Favorites: Perfectly Posh, Glossier Haloscope, Becca Blush in Tigerlily

Oh Monday, you came way too quick! My sister is getting married in just under a month so we went cake tasting on Saturday- yum, yum! We then put together her favors and floral for the table centerpieces-- they came out so pretty, I think the tables are going to look really nice. Luckily she's having a small, low-key wedding so there't not too much to do.

Even though we're well into October already but here I am sharing a few of my beauty favorites from September. These are typically products I've been using pretty much on the daily for the month or one that I've tried and want to share with you all.

How To: Make Small Lips Look Bigger with Makeup

How To Create Bigger Lips with Makeup

I usually shy away from using bright, bold lip shades because I always thought they made my lips look super small and thin. I mean, my lips are super small and thin, but they would look really thin. I finally figured out some techniques using makeup to make my lip shape look more plump... no lip fillers, injections or tingling lip products required! Since using these tips, my lips have looked larger and thicker... and a lot nicer in lip colors.

Fall Floral Rompin' + Good HUES-Day Linkup

Billabong Floral Romper, Sole Society Booties, Wide Brim Hat

As this post goes live, I will currently be en route to the Google offices down in Venice Beach for a field trip for work. Fun! The 2-hours+ sitting in traffic it takes to get there during rush hour? No fun! On top of it, it's hot. Like scorching, dry, icky hot. I thought this was fall?? I guess this extreme weather gives me an excuse to wear this pretty dark floral Billabong romper I picked up during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale a couple months ago. I absolutely love the back-tie details and I mean, how cute does it look with a hat and booties? C'mon SoCal, bring on that heat!

Makeup Monday: Fresh Faced with Glossier

lossier Skin Phase-1 Set: Skin Tint, Balm Dot Com, Milk Jelly Cleanser, Priming Moisturizer

I find that Glossier's motto of 'skin first, makeup second' holds so true. Yes, you can cover up blemishes and imperfections with makeup, but in the long run, that's not going to help and, depending on the products you use, can actually make those skin problems worse. Glossier, created by Emily Weiss of Into the Gloss (and yes, super intern Emily on The Hills!), believes that you need to take care of your skin first and offer all four of these products in their not-so-basic _Glossier Phase 1 Set.

Keep reading below to get my thoughts on this line and if it lives up to it's hype...

Style On A Budget: 5 Tips for Finding the Best Deals

This post is sponsored by Groupon, however all opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support A Good Hue.

5 Tips for Finding the Best Style Deals

The other day I shared my tips for finding the best beauty and pampering deals so this time around I wanted to share my tips on scoring great style deals. I know to some it looks like I always have new things and that I probably spend a ton on my wardrobe, but in all honesty I really don't. I know how to find good deals and rarely ever pay full price. Here's a few of my tips for saving when it comes to your style:

1. Sign up for your favorite brands' email newsletters. You'll be the first to learn about the latest sales and will receive coupon codes right to your inbox. Many brands even offer a special intro offer just for signing up! While your at it, be sure you're following your favorite brands on social media as they will typically announce their sales and special offers there as well.

2. If you don't feel like sorting through gobs of emails, Groupon Coupons compiles all the best offers from around the web, making it so easy to shop and save. You can find offers for Nordstrom, Kohl's, Sephora, Bloomingdales and more of your favorite stores.

3. Don't be too good for the sales and clearance section, you never know what you might find! Site such as Shopbop, will sometimes run exclusive offers on just their sale section, allowing you to save even more. A couple months ago I had found a super cute blazer but the brand was out of my size. I ended up browsing through the clearance section and found one that was super similar... for less than half the price!

4. Don't spend a ton of trendy pieces. You can find some great styles at  H&M, Forever 21, even Target that are on-trend but won't break the bank. One of my favorite blogs, Thrift and Threads, shows how amazing style can be created by mixing high and low-end items and sticking to a budget.

5. In this day and age you never have to pay full-price. Before committing to a style, use the Internet to search around for the best prices and any deals. You can even use sites like Shopstyle to compare prices and score the best deal.

How do you find the best style deals? Let me know in the comments!

My Wallet-Friendly Pampering Routine

This post has been sponsored by Groupon, however all opinions are my own.

My Pampering Routine with Groupon

Like most women, I love being pampered-- manicures, pedicures, facials, the works-- and would do so every week if I could. I will treat myself every now and then but these can start putting a dent in my budget so I typically have to search for more cost-effective ways to indulge in pampering treatments.

Read on for my budget-friendly pampering routine and how you can get your pamper on, including my secret for finding the best in beauty pampering deals...

Fall Style Essentials

Kate Spade Byrdie Bag, Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick, JCrew Toothpick Jeans, Lush Floral Dress, Steve Madden Lace-Up Flats
The nights are getting cooler and the sun is setting earlier, which means one thing: summer is coming to an end. Wah!! While summer will be greatly missed I can't help but look forward to fall... well, let's be real, as much "fall" as we actually get here in SoCal... and the cute styles that come with it.

Here's what's on my must-have style list this fall:

Wear It Now, Wear It Later: #itsbanana Denim Jeans

Banana Republic Wrap Military Jacket and Straight Jeans
Straight Jeans: Banana Republic (c/o) | Military Jacket: Banana Republic (c/o) | Tee: H&M | Booties: Treasure&Bond | Phone Case Wristlet: Rebecca Minkoff | Necklace: Stella & Dot (similar) | Cuff: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's | Sunglasses: Target

This weekend I started thinking about my summer activities, or rather lack of. I didn't go to the beach, aside from my trip to the South I didn't go anywhere, even a quick weekend trip to Vegas or out to the river, or even a fun day trip for that matter. I was pretty much a homebody this summer... Bo-ring!

My fall season, however, will be anything but boring. I'll be heading out to Toronto for work, my sister's wedding is coming up, I have a blog conference booked, a fun concert coming up  and hopefully a couple of long weekend trips in the works. I totally have to make up for my lackluster summer. I'm also really excited to pull out my fall clothes, jackets and booties.

LC Lauren Conrad Runway Collection Picks

LC Lauren Conrad Runway Collection 2016 for Kohls

Today I had the chance to check out the LC Lauren Conrad 2016 Runway Collection down at the Americana at Brand in Glendale, where they hosted a little Lauren Conrad pop-up shop. This ultra-feminine collection is filled with gorgeous wine shades, blush tones, rose-gold, nudes and pretty lilac- mauves-- all my most favorite shades. The LC Runway Collection is limited edition, so you'll want to get your hands on these items while you can- some pieces can be found in Kohl's stores, but there are some online exclusives available only at kohls.com.

Here's a look at my top picks from the collection:

1. Faux-Suede Moto Jacket: I have a feeling this moto jacket is going to be the most popular item from the collection! The faux-suede is SUPER soft, the style is super on-trend and the wine shade is gorgeous. The jacket also comes in black and a camel shade (with rose-gold button and zipper details)-- LOVE!

2. Ruffle Romper: I'm usually not much of a ruffle fan but I am feeling the soft ruffles on this chic romper! The long sheer sleeves on this romper make it totally acceptable for the workplace too.

3. Blue Quartz Cuff Bracelet: The jewelry pieces in this collection are so pretty-- I loved this rose-gold cuff with the blue quartz so much that I bought the matching ring and necklace!

4. Embroidered Cold-Shoulder Top: Super cute cropped tank with adorable daisy pattern- would look cute with high-waited pants, skirt or even jeans. Scroll below to see how Lauren wore it at the pop-up shop!

5. Chunky High Heels: I am in LOVE with these faux-suede blush-y nude chunky heels. I tried them on at the pop-up shop and they are super comfy (one of the girls working there said they are currently Lauren's favorites). I knew immediately when I saw them that they'd be perfect for my sister's upcoming wedding so I had to scoop up a pair.

6. Double-Breasted Blazer: Blazers are a wardrobe staple and I can easily see this one becoming a go-to. I love the longer length-- it looks great paired with pants, long dresses, and even shorts!

7. Ruffle Halter Top: I totally had to scoop up this halter in this pretty faint muave shade- I'm loving the retro style, the feminine ruffles and the keyhole detail in the front. Winner!

8. Lace Midi Dress: How pretty is this lace dress? I absolutely love the addition of the tulle hem, which is so unique, romantic and utterly-feminine. Trust me, this dress is GORGEOUS in person.

9. Pomegranate Cat's Eye Sunglasses: I mean, do I even need to say it? These sunnies are so cute!

10. Leather Bow Mini Crossbody Bag: Obsessing over this mini crossbody bag- love the bow details and chain strap. This bag also comes in cognac and a pretty wine shade-- the hard part is choosing the color!

Lauren Conrad LC Runway Collection 2016

I had the chance to meet (re-meet? Fun fact- I've met her before when she was the brand ambassador for mark., which I used to rep for!) her at the pop-up. She's super sweet and yes, that is one of her tops she's wearing!

PS- Many of the pieces are on sale NOW and you can save even more by using a coupon code. Get it while it's hot!
